So Monique and Steve Harvey are having a conversation about the whole Precious and Netflix situations. Steve Harvey said something very interesting (depending on your interpretation). Basically, he said (paraphrasing), "We're black. We can't just do or say anything we want to. There will be repercussions." Monique's response was basically, "If you can say privately, 'you did nothing wrong', but are too scared to say it publicly, then how do you expect anything to change?".
Black people have dealt with this for decades especially at the poor and middle-class level. Deciding between quality of life and freedom. However, in the 21st century in Hollywood between two successful, rich people, this conversation is still being had.
In terms of progress and equity, where are we really?
