oh ok. there are so many variations of fried chicken over here in the us- and how different ethnicities prepare it - Roasted or fried. But the fish and chips probably taste better over there in the UK right? Over here.. closest we have is Long John Silvers or Arthurs Treachers (back in the day).
Who the hell has fish and chips nowadays? It's mostly old cacs that eat it. If you live in London, you are more likely to see chicken and chips shops.
:heh:

Thanks for posting that man. Do you know of any similar lectures later this year?

I think the problem is most people dont know much about black british history. Even some black british people. There are countless works documenting black struggles in America (including hollywood blockbusters), but the works that are about Britian have to be dug out deep from the internet or archives or a library. Point being you'll only really find works documenting black british history if you look for it.

Theres this misconception that black people emigrated here, had all the rights and opportunities in the world, had mansions or something waiting for them, didnt encounter any racism or nothing, but then wasted it all anyway and started committing crime and stuff.

I have no problem with people not knowing much about our history, but atleast do your damn research before commenting on us. People on here have no shame that most of the shyt they say about us is incorrect.

If you follow Black History Walks on Facebook they always host events. Also Black History Studies, it's a well known and respected black couple who host events, tours both here and across europe and Africa.

As far as the ignorance in this thread on this forum in general, I just leave them to it for the most part. Fools are literally proud to be stupid, saying a whole bunch of nothing thinking they're actually saying something. It was somewhat more forgivable in the early dial-up days internet days before social media and youtube and even google. If people are ignorant in 2018 with access to all the information in the world about anything, then that's purely by choice. If they want to think we're just floating on clouds in a big utopia, that's on them. Everything turns into a "we're better than you because....." or the oppression olympics over a simple question that has nothing to do with it. This whole "I've never heard of it or seen it, therefore it doesn't exist" is just another cac talking point which is the same thing they say about THEM. Just admit your hate and leave it at that.

It is what it is.

I will say for black folks over here though, if they really knew their own history (not AA history and not just the last 70 years, but even further back), they wouldn't want to continue the bullshyt they do. You have to dig deeper but the information is out there. We need to wake up in this country and stick together, especially with how you see they've been treating the elders that came over and built this place. But I move in solid circles with people that are doing big tings.

Check out these two books:

Staying Power: The History of Black People in Britain

Black and British: A Forgotten History

People got no excuse these days to be ignorant, plus the media isn't going to portray us in the best light but that's to be expected. WE need to do this shyt for ourselves.

From my observance visiting London 10 times in the last 3 years. I stay a full week and always based in London. Live in NYC all my life. I think at least from the perspective of business traveler, it's different enough to change how you do business.

Like daytime drinking at the pub is normal. Anytime I go meet potential clients you feel like they really love you but then they never follow up so it's a bit fake. Terms like end of play rather than end of day. Things move slower and relationships play a bigger role in my opinion rather than performance driven in NY.

For me, the tube is a bit less efficient but the amount of walking just to get to a station and how deep the stations are is a bit much. The urban setting is a lot better because it's way less predictable than the grid we have so there's always little surprised here and there. The arcades are really nice as well. I like the parks in London and there's so many where you can relax. The food isn't as good but it's decent. I usual go to pret or itsu everyday anyway. The Indian food is much better and diverse. NYC has much better ethnic options and coffee and street carts. I find that there are a lot of small businesses even in central london whereas it's usually big brands in NY.

I like London weather because I actually enjoy the gloominess. London is a much better walking city because it's so sprawl and diverse. Each time I go I make it a priority to visit different neighborhoods by taking the bus.

I find the people in London to be much less politically correct and I love that. You aren't afraid to be yourself around coworkers. The drinking culture is better for the simple fact that you can drink outside but otherwise same shyt different city.

Work attitudes:
Americans are go getters, just have an idea and go for it (yeah high five buddy) vs Brits are generally more intelligent and shrude but overplan- plan, plan and then when plans are set plan again (but Jamie have you considered...?) so Americans end up getting more shyt done successfully but fail more than the Brits as well

Racism:
More open and deadlier in USA but more of it in UK although not in plain sight to the untrained eye

Women:
Sistahs about the same all things considered though bigger asses on average in USA so yep USA wins

Food:
Cac cuisine: both shyt
Black cuisine: about the same but subjective

Views of the world:
Americans have extreme paranoia of world wars, doomsdays and being attacked which will ultimately be their doom. Fat!

Brits are two-faced as they front like they embrace other cultures and travel more but also have ingrained superiority complex even though most are happy owning nothing as they come from a peasant culture with lords. Known alcoholics!

All in all USA is a company set up by cacs. A relatively young child that grew up off straight killing, a created monster that is barely still being controlled by its monstrous parents

So the relationship is parent/child - old evil parent trying to act humble in its old age after fukking the whole world up with its contract with the devil vs its loud teenage kid

Will definitely try look at these when I can cos I dont even know much myself. I remember back in like year 8, we studied black history (during black history month) on one occasion only. More or less all of it was the slave trade and american history, with one exception being Olaudah Equiano. Sometimes I wish that our history would be turned into some big budget film, cos that seems to be the only thing that would probably attract ppl to come and learn our own history, cos youngers especially are not gonna go and search for history books/documentaries/information etc.

Anyway, I'd say people just need to stop being arrogant. Black people as a whole have suffered the world over, so the energy spent bragging about who had it worst would be better spent making connections with each other.

And the Windrush scandal is bad, but it dont surprise me. We were never meant to stay here as far as they're concerned so its no surprise something like this was going on and kept behind closed doors. Overall theres a lot being done against black people here, but cos its not done out in the open, people wanna act like we're crazy if we call it out. Ive even been thinking of making a thread about gentrification in London especially, cos the future isnt looking too bright for us if our presence over here stays in its current condition (crime, poverty, reliance on the state etc.).
