The Miguel Nunez types that I’ve personally known have never fronted on their roots as far as I’ve seen.

My ex explained for awhile that in general, in nyc , Black was meant pretty much AA’s and Jamaicans. So some first generation Latinos wanted no parts of being black

The first Dominicans I ever knew where darker than me. If you saw them, you’d assume AA. Didn’t even put 2 and 2 together that there last names were Latino names.

Well as a Dominican who is light skinned. Nah most ain’t on that wave. I recognize my African roots and embrace Haitians as our neighbors.

But the country and many here have been brainwashed for too long and continue to let it happen.

Look at it like this. African Americans took centuries trying to de-stigmatize their race and embrace their roots. Still fighting for it. Colonized countries like DR, aren’t even to the point of acknowledging the problem with colonization let alone trying to understand it and combat it.

Long ways to go.

Its telling when I ask my mom why the beef is even there between us and Haitians and she dont even know they glossed over it in school lol

Good point on comparing it to America. Latin America is like 50 years behind America in race relations lol
