Part of being a man is learning how to control your emotions. It is NEVER acceptable to put your hands on a woman unless she has put her hands on you first, it doesn't matter what she says BE A MAN. Use your head and don't let emotion allow you to do something you will regret. At the same time, be mindful that you are the head of the household. Just as it is unacceptable for you to put your hands on her it is unacceptable for you to put her hands on you; If she ever breaks this rule deal with it in a swift manner in order to ensure she never does it again WITHOUT PHYSICALLY INJURING HER. At the same time don't be a pushover.
I would've simply replied to her with:
"I'm going to sleep in MY bed tonight and nobody is going to paint my closet because I don't want them to. YOU on the other hand can sleep wherever you want and have anything that is yours painted. See you in the morning"
