When Kool Herc created hip hop he was a party DJ who was just looking for a way to get the party started and keep it going. He used the same techniques he learned from growing up in Jamaica and applied that to the parties he performed at in the Bronx. Other DJs followed suit and noticed that the crowd got more amped at certain parts of songs. They figured out a way to use the turntables to manipulate the records and extend these parts of the song resulting in what is known as break beats. Some of these DJs became beat makers and with the use of the turntables, a sampler, some records, and a drum machine songs were made. Some samples were obvious and other not quite so. Most of hip hops greatest songs were the result of this and from all regions
Nowadays you listen to hip hop most of it is digital and sounds the same. Everybody hops on the beatmaker of the moment's sound and jacks it till its dead. Right now everybody uses the triple hi hat. When Wayne dropped A Mili there were dozens of songs that used the same type of production. Hardly anybody samples anymore which I know is a means of saving money becuz obvious samples aren't free. Don't get me wrong im not against people not sampling but there such a lack of creativity in the game these days. You got shyt these days with people half rapping half singing on non hip hop beats. How can some of this even be considered hip hop?

After The Chronic dropped, rappers from Cali to Ohio were rapping over G-Funk beats, trying to replicate Snoop's twang and delivery etc. It was the same with everybody in the East Coast copying the grimey sounds of the RZA, Havoc and the Beatminerz. Hella old heads never liked Hip Hop because of the sampling. It was like Hip Hop was taking the records of their youth and cannibalizing them and taking them out of context. Like "That's Earth Wind and Fire, I loved that song, it came out when I was in high school and these young nikkas are rapping about killing people and selling dope over it!"
