LA is 500 square miles. That would be like DC claiming all of PG County, Montgomery County and Fairfax County as one city

That’s been the case. Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx and Manhattan would all be top ten cities by population if there was no NYC.

I was shocked at one point to learn San Francisco in land size is smaller than Brookyn and Queens.
