Is this “we are not a monolith” talk code for “I am one of the good ones”?

The negative stereotypes about blacks were created by whites, so when other blacks speak about not being stereotypical, it looks white pandering. Especially when we know "the worst of your group", make up a small percentage of blacks as a whole.
Y'all give whites tooo much credit. Everything blacks think come from whites listen to some of y'all tell it that's why I can't get with the stuff some of y'all on. People on here do that shyt all day every day and people rarely say anything. Hell that's been when I personally have said we aren't a monolith the most. People in these threads stay with the blacks don't know how to do/don't do this and insert other group does. That's when I say the phrase.

The other time its usually used is when folks are defending themselves because they like something considered stereotypically white and folks got the MJ smilies and such. Let's be real if a chick or dude does certain things true or not folks automatically assume they mess with whites when that isn't necessarily the case so I see folks combating that. Maybe I'm not in them threads y'all be in but who just comes out of the blue with the we are not a monolith just because with no context behind it or co signing some stupid stuff? If that's the norm I agree with y'all but that's not normally how I see it used on here.

I can't even defend that :hubie:
I didn't realize the insecurity was rooted that deeply with some of y'all but this thread has really opened my eyes... I'll try and be more sensitive.

I'll finish with this, if you're not a hoodrats and not a deadbeat why are you mad with what I said? I didnt say most black folk fit in this category I just said I don't want to be associated with them. The only way that could be taken negatively is you have an insecurity pertaining to that subject plain and simple :francis:

But I will try and be more sensitive for y'all precious folk :russ::lolbron:

Just reread my post and try and grasp my intention. I know it's difficult through text to discern tone and all that but my message is coming from a good place
I hear you.

But when you use stereotypes to try and convey your message it came off exactly how the OP said it does.

An explanation to non-blacks that you are a good one.

Who else would need to know that all black people aren't "hoodrats" and "deadbeats" other than non-blacks?

I guess the whole "blacks people aren't a monolith" thing I choose to just live as opposed to explaining it to anyone.

Ahh ok I get what you're saying and I agree, some individual(s) opinions and viewpoints are trash to the point were simply disagreeing isn't sufficient and disassociation is the only way. With that said, I feel the OP was speaking generally or about black people that have the platform to discuss race relations and be seen as a spokesperson, not in small groups/families if that makes sense.

I use it to express the diversity of black people. You got the basketball player from Brownsville who builds and customizes computers and electronics, the dude with a gangsta past who works as a nurse. The girl who came from the hood but created her own business at 12.

I use it to say black people are a collective of complex individuals. City or surburban, ghetto or bougie, male or female, tall or short, light or dark, geek or jock.

I don't know because OP got the ideal for this thread mainly from another thread here. No threads on here have any power like that IMO so that's why I can't roll with that take. Those with a platform I can see but even then I rarely hear it used outside of when folks are doing lazy stereotypes and or being attacked for being different. I bet if you actually looked at when it used mainly you'd see most folks aren't saying on some I'm better than you because I do xyz. Hell when it comes to that folks will basically tell you they better than you because of xyz they won't hide it behind we aren't a monolith.

The key to all of this is whether it is said to get white acceptance or not.

If it’s said to gain white acceptance then it’s c00ning.

If it’s said to not give a fukk if whites accept you or not and just bring up truth then it’s all good.

But by saying you aren’t a monolith and bringing up hoodrats and dead beats in comparison is suggesting that this is what most black folks are

I see what you mean by the use of stereotypes truly and honestly. Maybe not the best way to have said it but I was talking specifically to op in regards to why some people don't want to be categorised by our worst

How does your mind even go this way :mindblown:
You are putting your own projections into my statement. I'm simply saying that we do not want to be categorised by our worst. End of story. Take that statement as it is without interjecting emotion
