The biggest cultural factor America has now isn’t racism it’s actually classism, the working class and the people with money and wealth. Having a black movie is almost irony at this point.

Very solid point. I agree. Hip hop is the perfect example of this. Once artists from different regions started collaborating and us a whole became connected through the internet, we've lost those prominent sounds, slangs, fashion, etc that each region brought to the table. The world is going through a similar transition.

Your thinking either your have to be in the spotlight or be a billionaire in order not to face racism. I dont think theirs anybody living in America in 2021 that has to "pull up there bootstrapes." Life to easier here in America. You dont even have to be that smart or different to get ahead.


Lebron can say and do what he wants, but if you waiting on Lebron James to come and save you from racism, you might as well keep waiting. Lebron lives somewhere in the California hills you think that guy faces racism.He's probably got white cops on his payroll.But its funny you bring up Lebron james in this black movie thread cause he's the definition of making a movie through a white lens with space jam, if he cared about the culture he would never act another day in his life. Dude clearly did the movie for himself and his brand, an easier cash grab.I remember a meme of lebron endorsing different books and hes always on the first page, saying its great book, yeah the guy really cares.


Same with Dave Chappele Living somewhere on 40 acres in montana or in the west somewhere, the only people he sees in a week are proley his asian wife and kids and I bet there sooo racist to him.. But next week he will have a new special on netflix talking about all the in justice on the streets of America, in front of an all white crowd with another check from netflix and a few more milli in his bank account. Then gets right back into his private jet and goes home.

Because white, gays or females are making so called "black" movies or the movie is hijacked to fit an agenda and are very stereotypical for white eyes, because thats their new fetish, black culture.

The biggest problem is its different era in cinema, IPs sell more than actors. Before the "reboot" era actors sold movie tickets, people would want to see the new Tom Cruise or Will Smith movie, in 2021 people want to see a movie thats attached to some IP. The only big actors who comes to mind when thinking strong black lead and can still sell a movie is Denzel Washington and ibris elba, you could say the rock but he's hardly black and easily passes as white to most.

I also think black culture is now so copied and commoditized you wouldn't even know the difference anyway. Take for instance the Harder They Fall, a decent movie but replace everyone in that movie with white people and its the same movie. Its just another example of a "black" movie made for a certain audience. Its an example of Netflix executives saying, we need a black movie.

I also believe its a generational thing, movies in general are becoming less and less racist and more diverse, so what really is a "black" movie. The world in general is becoming more connected and cultured.

The Rock doesn’t look white at all he’s just popular because of his charisma, wrestling career, physique, etc.

He’s like the guys in the OP that was mentioned black entertainers that transcend race. Rock is also “racially ambiguous” where he can play any tan skinned group.
