A million songs about killing nikkas you ain't kill (not that actually doing it would be better), selling drugs you ain't sell, banging gangs that would assualt and rob you if you ever came around, fukking chicks you ain't fukk, and repping brands of people that look at you like a monkey and this is the most pretentious song? :mjlol:

What kills me is that nowadays these nikkas will swear on their dead that they weren't going at anything in particular but the songs and videos were blatant as fukk.

De La acted like they had no idea why Treach tried to jump them on stage after they mentioned Naughty by name :dead:
They weren't really going at anything, it's just the videos were becoming so cookie cutter that any scene mirrored Top Artist A video. We saw the shift in uniqueness being stripped from videos. I do think it's conveniently ironic that some sets were the sets used in other videos though.

I agree. I actually used to like the roots when I was younger because I thought it was “smart” hip hop but now it just comes off as pretentious and lacks that slap

When does pimp c diss the roots?

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
I didn’t find it pretentious. It was more earnest.

Black Thought is a world class MC, he made it work

I never realized how much drama and bullshyt that video started within the industry. Nas was pissed. Puff was pissed. Biggie was pissed. A lot of mainstream rappers felt like they were being mocked. That video amongst other things really drew a line between mainstream and underground rap.
Them nikkas was hypocrites. lol. That’s why.

Yup. Classic throw rocks and hide hands hypocrite shyt. And to the “were they wrong?” nikkas in this thread. YES. At the time. They were. And later. They participated in the shyt they were hating on. And now. It’s a fukking divide that shouldn’t and wouldn’t be there if muthafukkas wasn’t moving like that in the first place.

I think A Tribe Called Quest and Common might be the only in this genre to put out pure music and never lifted their nose up at other types of Hip Hop
Common had that line in I Used to Love H.E.R

"I was offended she was with the boyz in the hood"

But how were they wrong, when the same argument still exists? Perpetrating an image that is the same that everyone else does, based on achieving the quick bag and not loving the culture. Must we not forget the MTV Cribs ish, when rappers were showing houses they clearly didn't live in ..all with the same ish in them

What did they participate in that they were hating on? Black Thought & Malik, more specifically.

The divide was always gonna be there because they money ended up controlling the culture.
