We in an era where lines like "She got a big booty so I call her big booty" is considered wordplay

i remember there was a time when some dope wordplay would be the highlight of an entire verse/song. Now it seems like nobody gives a fukk about being really clever with your lyrics. It's moreso about being repetitive on a catchy part of the song and saying it over and over. So I'm assuming redundancy has replaced being clever altogether. If so, this really is going to damage what makes listening to hip hop a pleasurable experience imo. The best parts about listening are replaying the pieces where you get the meaning of what the artists is trying to say. The wit of the artist and the decoding work on the part of the listener is a tradition. Now with sites like Genius there is no work....it's already laid out for you and anybody can have it without taking the time or having the experience to understand. The wordplay aspect is so crucial and it's just fading away.

Migos is right in the forefront yet nikkas choose to ignore...Fab still living as the goat wordplay nikka...I fukk with Woop heavy too on the wordplay,low key the trap/turn up rappers is what's keeping wordplay alive yet getting very little credit.

Those really are the only three in mainstream rap and those are grandfathered era rappers.
or in migos case a throwback to styles era gateway based rap of the trap type.
similar to fu schnicks meets bone based style lyricism from the rap game praising styles era based music.
All cause that is where lyor orginally.

And having a video breakdown doesn't ruin it, it adds a depth. I don't have a problem with that.
