I bring this up because if you ask most people who are in monogamous relationships they will always tell you “my wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend is my best friend in the whole world”.

But how true do you think that is that in reality? Especially when you look at the high rates of relationships failing, people cheating, divorces, growing apart etc

It's not true. You can share whatever with your bestie. A lot of these people can't even stand each other.
