I dont find Speed funny at all, but him being popular makes sense. Growing up with the Internet, the 4 C.H.A.N/forum/meme humor, and adult swim has made the youts extremely irreverent. All of this. Especially relevant with how things blow up nowadays. You can condition the youth to like objectively mediocre things simply if you make memes about how bad something is. The popularity of making fun of something turns it into a hit. Then there are active efforts to legitimize the mediocrity as well by shutting down any criticism of it as being out of time or simply hating. Before long the standards continue to lower and the history of those standards disappear, so more mediocrity gets pushed out. As younger generations grow up with these lesser “products” they are so inundated with trash that they are eventually wowed by new things that aren’t new as their predecessors were doing it in the past but it was forgotten.

Time is really a sin sometimes because it allows people to forget or not study history. The gatekeepers don’t pass on that rules, the lessons, and that history of their times. So we have this classic Rinse and repeat every couple decades. Except now, you can watch the decline happening in real time and faster because of technology.

great breakdown…I’ve seen these type of kids in high school dating back to at least 10 years ago…and this is just my experience (not a rule) but they all grew up in the suburbs mostly around white kids and their friends were white kids or other black kids who grew up similar to them
