People do use religion and other concept to act out their motivations. Understanding the Qur'an allows you to see what Islam is really about.

however, the book isn't impracticable. In the life of a human there may be times to kill. It's about what's in your heart and what makes logical sense. Doesn't make sense to kill for money or to kill out of pure anger or hate. Does make sense to protect your children or wife my any means.

No, it actually reads 'Thou shalt not murder'. The Hebrew word 'ratsach' (רָצַח) occurs about 50 times and has different 'levels' of meaning depending upon the context. The Commandment was a 'law' for Hebrews in dealing with other human beings, thus 'murder' instead of 'kill' because without killing, you wouldn't eat back then or now. Some confuse 'ratsach' with 'nakah' (נָכָה) which occurs about 500 times and can also mean 'kill/slay', but is more often used to denote 'striking/defeating/conquering'.
