If you're talking about identifying slavery as a root cause for the ongoing issues afflicting the Black population of America, I think it's a completely valid reason for reparations. Slavery went on for a much longer time, killed just as many people if not many more, and even after it was ended, government policies were put into place to infringe upon the rights of Blacks that continue today.

America is not a meritocracy at all, and it also pisses me off when people try and use Asians as an example of how people of color can 'make it' by working hard, because after the 60's we came here in different conditions (mostly because they would only let in already educated individuals fleeing dictatorships, the rest of Asia is one big ghetto), and there's lots of racism affecting us too, as well as gully Asian hoods out there. So if anybody says you can work hard and then everything's fair, they're wrong.
