The IDF practice of firing a missile at a civilian home to warn the occupants to leave the building before a larger attack, has been caught on film. Amnesty International has decried “roof knocking,” saying it in no way constitutes an “effective warning.”

A YouTube video uploaded on Saturday shows how a Palestinian house in Samir Nofal is struck by a warning shot before being destroyed about a minute later by a full missile attack.

Catch me up on this, what are their reasons for blowing these homes up in the first place?
This.

They fired a "warning shot" then blew building up, like 30 seconds later. even if that was a warning, people would've been injured/and or killed either way by the initial blast or the second barrage. No one can evacuate within 30 seconds.

The point in roof-knocking, in theory, is to fire a non-explosive missile at a building with the objective of warning its inhabitants.

But theory is not always practice. Sometimes, the real bomb comes too soon after the fake one. Sometimes, no bomb comes at all, which leads one to believe that roof-knocking is a form of psychological warfare.

The practice has been drawing controversy in the last week or so.

I dont think he's asking what roof knocking is, he's asking what is the reasoning for blowing up the homes like this in the first place.

if Hamas was in there, you wouldn't be knocking, cause then they'd be given a warning too, so how exactly does this benefit anyone.

I highly doubt Hamas is hiding highly explosive rockets in residential areas where their own children sleep and accidents can blow them up. so this is just destroying shyt for fun.
