I'm aware she had an HBO show that ran for several seasons, also aware of her YouTube beginnings (and I stress just aware of). Never watched it because it's not my thing. I don't watch Shonda Rimes shows either but I hear about her a lot more than Rae.

That doesn’t equal a long successful Hollywood career. Sometimes you’re just hot for one project. She could’ve mixed her career and been on some Ryan Murphy shīt and made gaudy shows about real stories that happened in black culture in the 80s/90s.

So she’s right to feel like she’s wack because there’s no demand for anything she’s doing but at least she has access to studios that will listen to her out of courtesy.

Ok, then you’re out of touch. She’s one of the biggest names for younger black creators and as far as being “niche”, she has roles in Spider-Man and Barbie…that’s crossover


Anyway, minorities were eating well from like 2015-2022 when all these streaming services were popping up and throwing money at everything to build their content libraries. Now that so many have consolidated and need to turn a profit, there’s not the same appetite for greenlighting any and everything, that hits especially hard for those telling “minority” focused stories
