Height don't matter as much as long as the roster is mostly short and you do some camera trickery like how they did Rusev standing next to the Rock filmed from a upward angle. ECW trickery had me thinking Taz was much bigger than he was but he looked much smaller and less intimidating when he came over to WWE in early 2000s. you are right though its not 1985 anymore though and it matters less
