IT/Computer brehs: Is a solid state hard drive really as good as they say?

I'm ready to throw my current laptop out the window and set it on fire, and I'm thinking of getting a laptop with a solid state drive

Is it really as fast and high performance as they say it is, or is it a bunch of hype?

Cop a SSD for your operating system and some HDD for storage.

Costs are coming down considerably. I’d give it a year and 1TB SSD’s will be normal for laptops.


To answer the OP’s question YES its absolutely worth it especially if you value your storage.

A Hard Drive is constantly spinning at either 5400RPM or 7200RPM which means that one day its going to die. Not today or tomorrow but one day its bound to happen. An SSD is comparable to a flash drive (no moving parts) so its harder to corrupt and MUCH faster.

Mechanical. I have a 6 year old laptop and I switched And put in an ssd. My computer is still leagues faster than a guy with a 2018 with a mechanial

check passwird or slickdeals or any other deal site and when the price is less that $.20/gb cop one with decent reviews thats compatible with your system.

A SSD to a HDD is like taking the condom off. Just do it

If you have a PC - SSD should have your OS, programs installed. HDD should hold all of your media, large files.

If you have a laptop with only 1 drive mount, get a minimum of 480GB SSD do not buy a 250GB SSD if you don't have another drive spot.

If you are gaming SSD should only be used for games you play on live 100% of the time, HDD is fine for anything else or get a Hybrid drive for gaming regardless of either scenario.

With a 1500 dollar price tag laptop, lol you believe laptops will see 1tb ssd anytime soon is wild

Single best investment to speed up your machine. SSDs are where it’s at, been rocking one for 8 years in my MacBook Air (which still feels snappy to this day.)

I have both.

Solid State Drives are way more expensive in terms of price and amount of memory compared to hard drives.

I use my SSD for my Operating System and my hard drive for my files.
