The people in general don't care for it. It has little to do with colonial laws or even religion. Talk to actual villagers. Any religious objections are merely an "acceptable" excuse, not the origin of those feelings. Some of that stems from just the general view of homosexuality and issues of foreign (white) soldiers assaulting people and kids. We may say those people are heteros acting up but in the eyes of your average villager, that's a gay person acting out or someone sexually unhinged. This is why their opposition to this always seems to connect to kids and so on.
