Your thread is going over everyone's head. It's not a thread about athletes that simply have nicknames...

For example if you met Clyde Drexler you wouldn't address him as "The Glyde." When David Robinson is introduced to ppl he's not introduced as "The Admiral"


BUT Magic is introduced AS MAGIC...


I think only Magic and Dr. J are the ones that have completely replaced an athletes given name. I remember in the 90's it came close with MJ everybody calling him Air Jordan but it never quite got to that level....


But I've never really heard anybody call Dr. J just "Julius". It's always Dr. J

Great example...I agree...I ain't even know Dr j name for years.

We from the same city. He got that name in high school from a local sports journalist. I think Tim Staudt from WILX was the one. Graduated from the same high school. Went to school with his son Dre. He's a cool af standup dude too. Never played the MJ is my dad card or nothing. Rode the bus with us too. I think his pops did that to keep him humble. All he had to do was graduate and it was on from there on out. Making business moves with his pops now :salute:
