It has nothing to do with push. Blu had every label at his door after Beneath The Heavens. He was tall, light skinned, handsome (pause), and melodic: that's the blueprint. He did his own thing for a bit (the Mainframe album, Her Favorite Color, etc) before signing with Warner Bros and dropping a Yeezus-esque album with no commercial viability. All during this period he was abusing drugs and slowly fukking up live shows, relationships, etc.

Blu had a shot, he turned it down because he never wanted to be big. And he ruined his career with drugs; dude was too broke to pay engineers to master his projects lol. Let's not forget Kendrick and Q opened up for a Blu show years ago in Cali. TDE lapped Dirty Science and the rest is history.

You are naive if you think the only difference between them was 'push'

First and foremost, be mad at Blu. Not at Kendrick. Not at people who like Kendrick. Not at Interscope, Dre or Jimmy. Be mad at Blu. He fukked off his talent something serious.

Second, Blu and Kendrick's lanes are not the same. In fact, just standing them side by side shows just how different the south bay is to Compton even though they are probably less than 30 miles apart.

Third, I've seen Blu fukked up on drugs first hand. Now I can't say he's was/is always strung out but he definitely does drugs. People seen him out, fukked up.

BTW I loved Blu's shyt man. If you were a big HIP HOP fan in 06/07 shyt like Blu, Little Brother, Jay Elec, Y Society, etc gave you hope in a sea of bullshyt rap. Beneath The Heavens is one of my favorite rap albums. I listened to Her Favorite Color all winter when it came out during one of my college years. The Johnson&Johnson album was in my rotation non stop. I'm NOT a Blu hater.

But he fukked up and let a lot of people down, to the point I don't even listen to his new shyt. I still haven't even heard most of Jesus. I remember waiting for him to get tired of the lo fi/unmastered wave he was on. Then I realized he didn't give a fukk about the music. And when I learned he was a fiend it depressed me man. Just like with Jay Elec I had to move on as a fan because I was tired of hoping for shyt that never came.

I remember someone on the old site talking about seeing Blu at Coachella rolling around in the grass high as fukk and posters went then a few months later this interview with Danny came out

I had a show in Illinois and I met Blu and we hit it off. He was like, ‘If you ever come out to L.A., holler at us.’ So I had a show in San Diego in 2008 and Fat Beats heard I was in San Diego and they asked me to come through and do a little set in L.A. So I went to L.A., did the Fat Beats set, and stayed out there for three months. [Laughs.]

“We were just doing drugs and partying. We did all types of dumb shyt. But it opened up my mind to a lot of shyt being with them for those three months though.

“That was my first time going out there and being around model bytches and crazy pool parties with white bytches sniffing coke. I’d never really seen this type of shyt. So it was like, ‘Oh my God! This is me! This is like my calling.’ [Laughs.] I used to be in the hood and I used to always see shyt like that but I never knew that shyt was like what it really is. It was like a long-ass ride so we just took mad Ecstasy tablets and go straight up to Coachella. By the time we get up there, I’m tripping.

I’m freaking out but we meet my homegirl—some baller, whatever—and she took us to this T-Mobile party. The party is built like a big-ass carnival with free everything. The party was at the motherfukking hanger and there was this fukking big-ass jet in the middle of the party. We go on the jet and motherfukkers are sniffing coke on the jet! That was just crazy man.
