Idiots really in here claiming meek fukked up mmg money. If meek wasn't so restricted he would be able to do his own tours and more walk throughs. Get off drake dikk mmg don't need that fakkit to make money rozay hasn't done a song with dude in years.
Meek isn't selling out a 15k seat with tix for $20. Which is ironic because people would pay more see him in a club. However, he isn't the center of attention at a club. :ohhh:

Meek's fukked. His album did 214k first week and now at the end of the year it's only sold 350k. Sales don't mean as much these days, but just looking at those numbers should tell you something's wrong - he definitely should have gone gold at this point but the beef and the media fukked him over.

I have more respect for Meek than I do for Drake cause the dude has balls. He stuck to his guns even when the whole world was against him. At the same time, what ignited the beef in the first place was some snake shyt. He brought the whole ghostwriter thing up not because he cared about authenticity, but because he was going for Drake's position, and he couldn't do it. If the exposal was done out of a love for the art of writing and a desire to not see the genre corrupted, then it would've been okay. But he really just wanted power, and he didn't have the music to back it up.

Objectively Drake's music is better than Meek's. But Meek is a stronger person. Drake has the whole machine behind him, because that's who he is. He's soft, suburban, and makes pop music. So obviously every magazine and executive would hop to his side. But people want to talk like he's some kind of brilliant strategist or something - nah, he had a fukkload of PR people and most likely a couple actual battle rappers working the issue the whole time.

Anyways, Meek should pick up the pieces and move on. He's still rich, he still has some fans, even if it's not as many as before, and even though he won't be #1, he can still have some kind of career.

you can't use objectivity when it comes down to discussing quality of music

For me, objectivity in mainstream music = critical acclaim + public opinion + influence on the culture + commercial success.

Personal preference is a different topic and that's basically all subjective

:jbhmm:is there a time limit on beef????

i swear that this drake vs meek meme beef is the first experience of a hip hop beef for a lot of you nikkas out there!!!
there have been beefs that have lasted for years and not once was there as much importance placed on a time limit and it was never made into a big issue.

What you call a infinite brawl, eternal souls clashing
War gets deep, some beef is everlasting

NAS - ONE MIC

:snoop:this beef is corny and fukk it, i don't know what that fool meant with those lines either!!!
Beef and diss tracks are two different things. If a nikka smoke you on wax u best believe there's a time limit you have to respond before people say you lost. Exactly why Drake hit him Back To Back, placing Meek, Nicki and anybody else that love em in checkmate

it means he went on tour with nicki, his broad, who Drake is obsessed with, made money.. and nikkas claimed L. Just like OP. :mjlol:

Word. All he's saying in those bars is "I'm on my girls tour traveling the world making $$$$, and y'all are gonna use that against me?"

The lines was kinda weak but he's right anyway. Meek got clowned for pulling a fine chick everyone else wanted:francis:

Meek's girl is richer than him and other males are more insecure about it then he is:mjlol:

all of your criterias with the exception of sales are subjective though.
critical acclaim = someone's opinion
public opinion = someone's opinion
influence on culture = opinion
commercial success = sales=/=quality and there is enough proof out there, but again that is just my opinion!!

A lot of these things can be broken down into numbers, even if they're not completely scientific, you can more or less get a general sense of how potent music is as a product by combining all of these factors. It'll never be 100% accurate because everything in music is constantly shifting, but some music is generally considered to be 'better' than others. A lot of people would say that Pac is a better artist than say, Soulja Boy. Nas is better than Bow Wow. And so on.

These haven't been proven in any kind of study or whatever because that's impossible, but very few people would disagree with statements like that. So my original post was a bit of an exaggeration, but some music can be definitively said to be more relevant, if not generally more pleasurable to listen to, than others.

Opinion has a lot to do with it, and opinions change. But sometimes, the difference in quality is obvious. I'm not even a Drake fan, I dislike a lot of the things he stands for. But there is obviously a lot of work put into his music (even if it's not all him), and the end result is mostly sonically enjoyable.

You don't have to agree with me either, but there's a lot of competition in Hip-Hop, and I think having some kind of general consensus helps with discussion in that lane. :manny:
