Volpe has been in a bad slump lately. 1 homer in the past 30 games and no walks in the past 15 games while going 2 for his last 20. Judge and Soto are presently the only batters with an OBP above .330 and really only one infielder has defended well. They need to make some additions to the infield and the pen soon. Judge and Soto are being asked to carry too heavy a load right now. Only one other guy besides them has a .270+ average right now.

There’s always the possibility of Torres getting it going but they have to make trades for men on the corners and at least 1-2 arms in the pen. Nobody on the corners has an average over .240, an OBP higher than .310, or better than even a .400 slugging percentage. I think they’re 25th or worse in ops at all 3 bases right now. As good as the outfield has been, the infield will sink them early in October as they presently stand.

Rizzo had to go even before he got hurt. It's controversial but I think it's time to call up Rice

I like this move too. There’s time to see if he’s good and time to make a trade if he isn’t. Wish they did it 2-4 weeks sooner.
