If the Yankees can get him to throw consistent strikes then you have a potential filthy bullpen pitcher but he can’t do that or he’d still be on the cubs

Japanese players have a strong preference for West Coast teams (especially the Dodgers). The West Coast is closer to Japan, and there is a larger Japanese diaspora over there. There's only a tiny Japanese diaspora in NYC/East Coast.

The Yankees should try to lure Korean and Taiwanese players too. Those are also baseball-obsessed East Asian countries, and there is a decent-sized Korean and Taiwanese diaspora in NYC.
