I remember the 94-97 era of rap like it was yesterday. This is what I will say....

LAD was so anticipated after Biggie died...it came out like 2 wks after he died and it didn't disappoint

RD was a gem when it dropped but it wasn't as popular as IWW

In hindsight...LAD is first, but it's a tossup between IWW and RD

Jay had the flows & the production but Nas had the themes & lyrics

It Was Written is NOT a classic album, fukkin nerd ass nikkas. Nas only has one classic Illmatic, Jay has multiple classics

The high points of LAD I think are higher than the others, RD is probably the most consistent of the three, and IWW hit a tone with the Message, I Gave You Power and some other songs that no one has really ever touched since.

It devalues the artistry to rank them imo. They are all great in their own way and ultimately it comes down to personal preference.
