U bring up a good point but i would say Penny tapped the one way thing dude would fear and thats losing his son. Thats a nightmare scenerio for any parent. i never read the books but is the peremiter of stones trapping pennywise to Derry something new that the show added and would that be canon cause King is involved?
Thats a dope way of explaining why he didnt expand and take over the world cause Chicago wouldve kept him fed for 3 centuries
The stones are just something from the show. It just doesn’t want to leave.
Energy and vibes are a big thing in Kings books lol. It crashed before humans were a thing, and once they were it found something easy and apparently delicious to prey on. People started settling in what would become derry, and started a logging camp, that turned into a town, which turned into a city.
Places like Derry, Jarusalem’s Lot, Desperation, The Overlook Hotel from the shining, etc. are saturated with bad energy because of a long history of hate, death, and pain. Stephen King likes to liken that saturation to charging batteries. Pennywise and his actions are so intertwined into the city that it cause people to be more hateful and violent than normal. Most, especially adults, are kind of stuck in a funk like everything is normal.
Pennywise keeps the city’s unspoken dark battery charged and in return its become such an easy feeding ground that it doesn’t even know it’s a feeding ground because all the death and missing kids are just “normal”. It’s basically a predator and acts like one. like birds know to wait on baby sea turtles to hatch and they can have a buffet. Why struggle to find fish swimming in the sea when your food will walk right up to you?
It kind of has it made. It has an unaware, constantly replenishing supply of food. It eats good for a season, sleeps for 27ish years, then wakes up to another food supply that has forgotten about it, or are too young to know. IT keeps the adults angry, paranoid, and buried in vices, and IT’s free to bend space and time to marinate the kids… as long as it puts things back the way it found them so the adults continue to forget and never fight back. The huge tragedies, and instances of mass violence at the end of the feeding cycle, help to keep the town soaked in bad energy and normalize the feedings.
Light vs dark and chosen warriors are another big thing in his books, so some of the people aren’t affected because something cosmic, like IT or Randall Flagg, is also moving good chess pieces into place.
