Antonio Gramsci was the last hope Italy ever had. In 1946 it had the biggest communist party in the world after the USSR. It was a proper grassroots movement as well. 2.5 million members and a 20% share of the seats in parliament.

But American imperialism put an end to the Italiam Communist Party in 1947, and with that extinguished the flame of possibility for Italy. It was inevitable that without a strong left wing movement to destroy the memory of fascism, the Italians would return to fascism within a couple of years, and so they did
CIA had a whole operation in Italy after World War Two and the years of lead…it was called operation gladio and they directly relayed information and abetted fascist terrorists In that time.

To be fair, Italy is notorious for having tons of short lived governments, once the recession continues and the Govt gets blamed for it, her coalition will fall apart triggering new elections and a new government. Business as usual. I grew up in Italy, I have seen it all my life.

throughout all that how long has berlusconi (for example) been involved in various ruling governments?

They did that all over Latin America too.

Rich people will do literally anything to maintain their position of dominance. The whole reason we even have democracy as we know it today was because of people FORCING kings and their noblemen to give up power. What's different now is unlike back in those days a modern day baron has killers in the government that he can unleash as needed and with instant communication he can ask for foreign help. They did it to the black panthers, they did it to people who wanted a 5 day work week, and they will do it to people who want a new economic system. This is the reason leaderless resistance is the only way to go these days. You can demonize an individual but it's much harder to get an ideology out of people's minds.

@Alan Johnson

I got bushed for damn near 3 months for my posts in this thread. I was merely highlighting what was a foregone conclusion with Meloni being elected. she was elected.

I do this for a living :francis:

Like Italy wasn’t in Africa :comeon:

That said, I’m deeply disturbed I actually agree with the premise of her argument…but she is using it in a very cynical way. This woman doesn’t have any sympathy for the plight of Africans and their fight against colonialism.

EDIT: that is ostensibly a Marxist Twitter profile. Why on earth would they facilitate the spreading of far right views? Fascists don’t have any coherent economic ideology. She’s just borrowing straight from Il Duce.

I really don't know much about her. she's been demonized in the media as the next Mussolini so no idea if she's a good person or na. but in this video she spitting facts:hubie:
She’s not wrong, but she’s using leftist populism for fascist ends. Like I said, Mussolini veiled his fascism as pro-worker, and let’s not forget the nazis called themselves socialist. Both these countries had a thriving leftist community, with Germany almost initiating a socialist revolution after a schism in the SPD.

Fascists are chameleons. They inject themselves into the revolutionary dialectic and thereby hold it hostage. She’s not wrong but I seriously doubt she is arming any nationalist groups in the area…she is simply chipping away at France’s armor as they are infinitely higher on the EU totem pole.

Folks don't understand this. This is also why these movements are successful. As you said, fascist parties routinely used leftist populist rhetoric.

The better way to look at political schisms is that both sides can look at a problem and agree a problem exist. Its the solutions where they differ. Both sides can agree that currency is another tool in the tool belt of countries like France for flexing control and power over poorer and less empowered nations

The difference is the left (not US b*stardized neocon leftists) uses this to empower the exploited while the right uses it to disempower the oppressors. These may seem like similar outcomes but they aren't The latter would be great if they were doing it for the benefit of the oppressed. Instead, they are using it against the oppressor in a way of delegitimizing the current system in order to supplant it and take over. Of course, once in power, they will also use this power and won't even bother with the pretense of human rights and compromise at all. It's asinine to believe a movement whose whole existence is the seizing and use of power will give up existing tools of power once in control.
