I prefer Italy and Southern Europe to northern Europe. Mediterranean people are chill. They are way cooler than uptight Northern Europeans. Doesn't always make for the best governance, but they enjoy life which I can appreciate coming from the States.

Spent a month and a half there last year (visited Rome and Venice), and literally the only non-tourist black people I saw were beggars who lingered outside of stores hat in hand. Italy is very homogeneous racially and it's hard to imagine a black man (especially one from the US) liking it outside of how cheap the food & wine is. The women aren't attractive, the public transportation's somewhat shytty and unreliable, and a lot of things there just don't make sense in terms of how they operate. Rome definitely feels a full step below cities like London, Barcelona, and Berlin in terms of development. It just felt like a dirty place overall with hard, haggard-looking people. Venice is amazing but somewhere to go with wifey instead of solo.

Never made it to Milan, though, and I've heard it's a bit better.

The women are aren't attractive,well damn then why italian people have the reputation of being attractive?

Backwards in what sense? Certain civilizations don't stay on top forever. Look at Iraq vs Mesopotamia!

Poor transportation/infrastructure via train, plane, and bus. Not very friendly for travelers. I felt like there was a lack of places to stay and expensive, nearly no wi-fi anywhere, directions were tough to make out, English was a no even in the hospitality industry. I was there during the height of one of their economic crisis and didn't have any memorable issues with trash or crime on the bright side. Personal gripe but they don't have a pub culture from what I saw. I loved the architecture and scenery so I still enjoyed myself. I was in Bologna, Florence, and Rome. I was also with my Italian speaking girlfriend which helped a lot. For a reference point I was living in Morocco for a month prior.
