I don't listen to rappers that are younger than me. Kids just aren't capable of impressing me with their wordplay, i just see a lil kid saying a bunch bs that i know is bs. The rappers older than me that still make music are using c00ning way too hard to support, and the ones that don't c00n as much still lack the production quality they used to have because studios aren't investing money to make a hit for some 50 year old rapper. So basically its been dead for me.
But thats just the cycle of music, eventually you complete your collection and just have to listen to oldies

rap is alive and well. some of you old heads lost the fire don't blame the genre there is still greatness to be had. if you just take what is presented to you by exposure your ears will most definitely suffer and your mind wilter.

Pete and Bas for what it's worth can actually spit, if we're using the context of the current generation of rappers. But as I and many others have said once the barriers to entry were reduced, the overall product got watered down. Clearly, Pete and Bas would've been laughed out of the record label offices 20 years ago.
Rap still has a lot to offer, it's just not essential for me anymore. I'm not one of these gatekeeping purists who says hip-hop can only be this; the golden era for me was early 90's to late 2000's, and it was some of the most ignorant shyt ever.
I still check for new shyt from new artists on occasion, but I find myself falling back to the greats more often than not. The only new album I recall listening to this year was Rakim's, which was decent.
As predatory as the old music industry was, they knew how to put a good project from talented people.

Showing off you car and chains or making it out the mud was cool when i was a kid, but at this point i've made it my damn self. I want some grown subject matter. Talking about raising kids, going on a spiritual journey or something more meaningful to me. But not in some hippy indie eclectic way, i still want bangers. You can talk about mature stuff and bump the whip like project pat.
Plus I got more money than most of these kids anyway, going out and copping some foreign super car just makes me cringe cause i know its 50/50 you working in food truck like beans 20 years from now. My parents are millionaires (single digit) in their mid 60s from regular 9 to 5's. some dude living off a 1 time advance telling me how rich he is off one hot single doesn't resonate with me anymore. 99% of rappers are not Jay-z or Kanye. most are memphis bleek status, but i rarely hear any blue collar working class bars. Oddly enough that blue collar shyt is wildly popular in country music, and their fans seem to love it.
