I'm looking at this comic book website and it's amazing how these publications have changed over the years, the covers are extremely harsh in tone and violence with this apocalyptic emphasis compared to when I was growing up.

The movies and tv shows that are revered today are also extremely dark, depressing and this anti-hero theme has become the norm and now the staple of what great programming is.

Everything is judged now on how evil a character is, as the main stars who are supposed to be "the good guys" turn bad, while the bad guys a lot of times have this "fake so called good behavior", this shyt is just really weird.

Most of the music in pop culture today is also very somber, way too gloomy. The videos aren't colorful anymore, there's a lot of the use of greyish black colors and weird occultic images/signs. I haven't seen a modern music video on the level of an exciting busta rhymes/missy elliot creative short in over a decade.

Video games have taken this rout too especially the XBOX, PC and PS collection, Nintendo though still has a lot of that old school feel good colorful vibe.

It seems like being evil and dark is going to be the "in" thing for a very long time and won't be falling off anytime soon.
Yea, the demonic realm is beginning its march as the new good. It sickens me. Demons are the new good guys. :mindblown:

It's just a representation of the times we are living in at the moment. Alot of medium you see is based on the fact that people are depressed right now. If a Superhero was to be purely good, it wouldn't work because people don't feel a connection... or at least most.

If you were too see a party video, it wouldn't make sense to people. Just because they are throwing a big party, while people are poor and trying to survive.

Right now the common sense is people who are conflicted like them. The more grounded they are, the more they can relate. When the US can see more progress, like in the 80's. Is when people begin to have fun again and when medium becomes easier to watch when it stretches out. Just because they are not worried about life, and can have fun.

At least that is my take.

We just gotta get through this decade of darkness before the cheer comes back. We should appreciate it actually, the 90s wouldnt have been shyt if people never got tired of the 80s. You should probably enjoy it now cause in the future you might be saying "Why is everything so cheerful nowadays? No one is this happy all the time, no one likes a perfect superhero, where's my troubled protagonist? I miss the Dark Knight type movies."

I agree, especially with comics and movies. A lot more depictions of blood and gore, edgier language, more sexualized and psychotic characters, a lot more deaths and overall killings. You could see examples of this here and there in the 70's, 80's, and early 90's, but from the mid-90's on it just seems to have exploded.

P.S. This thread might do better numbers in the arcadium.
