I seem to frequently hear about atrocities on the continent taking place with riduculously high body counts and people barely bat an eye.


Case in point. 85 civilians killed and there's no outage.

• US media generally covers international events only to the extent that it promotes or affects US govt. interests
• Hyphen Americans can use their power and leverage in the US to publicize events in their family's mother country. To encourage other Americans to care, and support humanitarian aid or US govt. intervention. The amount of power they wield directly affects how much coverage it gets, or not.
• I think some outlets opt to not cover the atrocities because they feel it portrays African(and descent) people in negative light

Basically. Look at the answers right here already blaming "tribalism". The very use of that word is white supremacy, somehow "brehs" believe that only in Africa do people have conflicts based on which ethnic/linguistic/religious group they're part of. Strangely enough the War in Yougoslavia was fought along the exact same type of lines yet no one ever accused them of "tribalism"
