8 or 8.5 out of 10 to me, solid album. 4 out of 5 mics to me.
Not just the aggression which is something new from Nas and appreciated but since rap has changed & rappers have become more musically inclined Damien kind of made Nas step his game up in that aspect. Then when Nas went back solo he regressed back into the stale boring artists he's been for a good 10 years now.You can't really compare the two breh, DR is conceptually a completely different type of album. I can appreciate the two for what they are, both are dope but I can see where you're coming from. The aggressive vibe around DR is something that gets you hyped but I can't listen to it all the time. I can bump some Life is Good and make some food, I can't really cook bumping Nah Mean. Nah Mean?![]()

Life is still very blessed. Album is a solid 4/5 mic. Not a classic but one of the best albums to drop in the last few years.

I give it 5/5. There's plenty of classics that don't have the sales. Also it's not gonna have the influence as some of the classics in other eras because of business reasons. Most of the time only a rapper with a proven track record will be allowed to make an album like this. And for the few new rappers allowed, they're too busy chasing a hit record for airplay. Also most new rappers go the mainstream route because they're not talented enough to make this type of album and go the easier route. Plus young rappers aren't experienced enough in life to make this type of album. And the older rappers who have more life experience is either trying to stay relevant by acting younger than they are or out of the game completely. So the only way to judge if it is a classic is by the work itself. It's clear that this album will stand the test of time because many will be able to relate to his problems one day if not already. Classic![]()
Forget sales, that shyt is meaningless. But I wouldn't necessarily say that the album didn't have the impact it did because of business reasons. For whatever reason, the public didn't resonate with Nas enough for them to claim that this album was better than Take Care for example. Yes, that comes down to popularity and seeking a more, "mainstream" sound but a classic does something different and changes the whole mainstream sound. GKMC is a classic because you can already see the shift in the mainstream becoming more lyrical, the public want lyrics and competition back. What Kendrick did these last two weeks all began with his album, it's a direct result of him making those sales and getting his name out there and then having the power and motive to influence the game. That doesn't just come down to having a machine behind you, that essentially boils down to the impact your music made in the first place.
Nas has it in him to create something better than GKMC, he already has that's proof enough already. Whether he wants to is a completely different argument. I honestly feel like him going independent would be the best move for him, he has his own lane and he can murder the rap game from there.
I can appreciate a response like this instead of one that fakkit above you posted![]()
