first off, the guardian has never been a credible source for music criticism. they are noted contrarians a la pitchfork in the early 2000s, and have had it out for for ye even from when he was in his critical relevance.
second, i wasn't crazy about donda and i haven't throughly enjoyed a kanye west album front to back in almost 10 years (not counting kids see ghosts), but i never really understand where the "came and went" comments come from? nobody gives a fukk about music, let alone albums like that anymore especially in this hyper fast social media era. people will get their memes off and keep it pushin.
