Not where I’m at. Houses for rent are significantly higher. Like $700 more minimum

I’m moving back to my old city where I have two houses.

The mortgage for my 3BR is $800, while the renting market for something similar is $1800.

The mortgage for my 4BR is $1500, while the renting market for something similar is $2200.

Once I move back into one of the houses, I’m already paying less than market average and saving money.

Don’t buy houses brehs :unimpressed:

We rented a townhouse before buying and we thought the whole ownership thing was a hustle. We were paying 1200 a month in Buckhead which was a steal in 2006-08. What made us look towards ownership was a few things. Started having kids which meant we needed more space, then we had incidents where the air would go out in August in Georgia, and the rental company would take its sweet time to fix it, like 2 weeks with a pregnant girlfriend is a eternity. The last straw is when they raised our very affordable rent from 1200 to 1700. When we couldn’t find another place quick enough and asked for a month to month the “sista” in the office said “too bad I got another tenant moving in 3 weeks”

Decided to take advantage of the collapse of 08 and it was the best move we ever made.

It’s pro and cons to both. Homeownership has it holes k the foundation too. You have to know the local laws. I know a guy who recently sold multiple duplexes for a bare minimum profit because it became too much to handle. He was renting them out but some renters are huge scammers. One fam knew it was time for eviction but waited til the last day to respond(30 days) and once it got confirmed the have 60 days to leave the premises. That’s practice 3 months and some change of living. Dude was working double for most the year because multi family pulled this stunt on him. Dude was so stressed out his body started to fail him. Dude was living in his parents guest room during all of this. After a couple of months they started charging him rent

This. I guess I could’ve been a serial home buyer but it always struck me as more permanent. I like the flexibility and I’ve considered being a digital nomad for a year. Trying to figure out what country(s).
Facts I don’t really know where I wanna be at long term either

Mexican brothers work HARD and they charge less than these businesses. This guy has his own company, found him on the nextdoor app

He comes highly rated with 5 stars. I reached out, explained to him what was going on. Dude showed up with like 5 cousins/nephews.

it rained like mad a day later. Patched the holes with NP1 and we haven't had any issues since.

they knocked it out. Cut the previous quote in HALF.

Mexican homies in the past 6 months have worked on the plumbing in the kitchen, installed the farmhouse sink, cabinets and quartz countertops

you run with these businesses they charge you a premium.

word; they don't sweat permits and American laws either they cut mad corners to get it done :dead:

Dudes in here talking bout mortgages are a scam are gonna be in for a rude awakening once they hit retirement age.

nikkas gonna be 70+, living off social security and hoping their low income housing apartment doesn’t kick them out for playing music too loud :scust:

thats the scary part. my mom had a rent controlled apartment and I had to fight her to get out and cop a condo. she doesn't make much either. some people just don't get it. you can't guarantee you'll be able to work forever. without owning a crib your ass gonna be on the street fukked up.

@maxamusa great points. What if you want your own house but don't make enough to afford one?

Noooo way I could go back to living in an apartment again, parking issues, neighbors walking above, noise from adjacent apartments and parking lot noise outside of your place late into night.

Paying rent is woat! :scust:

I just checked the floorplan price for the last apartment I lived in, due to refinancing my house a few years ago. it is DOUBLE what my current mortgage is which includes property taxes :heh:

Get off being some corporation incomes as soon as u can
Right!!! It doesn’t even make sense.

Don’t buy your own home, just pay off someone else’s and get nothing out of it

Also to add the average home price in the US is around 400k+ right now and rising. In many markets, the locals can’t even afford homes there because the average wage is not enough. In certain states you simply have no hope of owning a house unless you inherited it or you’re upper middle class.

Where the homes are affordable is for a reason, it’s either in an undesirable area or where there’s no jobs or nothing to do which people aren’t gonna uproot their lives for.
First three rules of real estate.

1. Location
2. Location
3. Location

Some people drive 30 minutes and more to their job. If you want everything perfect, you’ll have to pay for it. If not, move to the country and drive into the city.
