Key word: mainstream hit

Ya'll posting songs that were big in R&B not mainstream.

Wait a gottdamn minute...

don't you have another thread ON THIS VERY PAGE extolling The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill as an "undisputed classic hip-hop album"??

How you gonna think that and then turn around and say The Roots biggest hit that won awards ain't hip-hop enough??

Gone and sit down somewhere...

being on the chapelle show and jimmy fallon are the main reasons they are mainstream now, but 'break you off' and 'you got me' were mainstream hits....

Break You Off was a hit? I only saw the video a couple of times, and never heard it on the radio here.

You Got Me, okay, but that would their "one hit wonder" track. Even then. that ish still was aimed at backpackers. It had non-prime Erykah Badu.

Even with Fallon, they are still the band for people that say they like hip-hop but don't know any songs.

You got me was a pretty big song. Also have you ever been to a Roots concert? That shyt is like 90% white 5% asian and 5% cornball brother.
All those college tours they did during the early 2000s paid off.
