It's crazy that in less than 90 days we will be entering the middle of this gen already

It is flying by

The Wii U will be entering it's 4th year this November (Probably it's final year as Nintendo's current console), while the XBOX ONE and PS4 will be entering their 3rd year.

Things that are surprising to me so far:
No solid leaks on redesigns of any of the consoles yet, but this is most likely because the consoles have been built solid this time around. I thought/hoped the XBOX One without an optical drive was a reality, but Phil Spencer shut that down. Nintendo might be the first console without an optical drive soon

No hard Jailbreak/Mod...this scene looks like it is permanently dying out on consoles.

We have had ONE truly memorable moment IMO and that was with P.T., then it got scrapped (this is about to change with MGS5)

The power of the cloud still hasn't helped things install faster on the xbox one.

We don't have a sequel to Fez or a followup to Mario Galaxy 2.

Things that haven't surprised me:
VR is still not fully baked yet

Streaming games over the cloud isn't ready for primetime yet, Gaikai looks like it will stay as a side project that Sony should probably incorporate into the PS+ subscription for free.

We still don't have another Onimusha game

Overall it's been a solid rebound to the generation after a hilariously bad start. The end of 2015 and entering 2016 looks like it is going to be insane. I think it's been pretty good myself overall.

I always felt like "next gen" started with the first GTA, MGS or big exclusive game and that's looking like it'll happen next week with MGSV(even though it's cross gen.)
As far as this being the "middle" of next gen... ehh I don't. I think we'll be seeing new consoles by 2018 the EARLIEST.

The biggest difference this gen from last gen is there hasn't truly been that "GAME" that felt next gen through and through. The best games so far this gen has been remasters and indie games aside from Bloodborne and The Witcher 3.

Oh nah I wasn't talking about Wii U. I think NX is dropping as early as holiday next year.

Pretty much. My favorite games this year have been RE Revelations 2, REmake HD and Arkham Knight, those are the ones I've played the most. I watched playthroughs for Mortal Kombat X, PT and Wolfenstein and enjoyed those games I might actually pick up a copy of MK X because that game surprised me at how good it was and I haven't played a MK game in years.

But other than that this gen has been pretty underwhelming, I thought one of those VR headsets would be out by now, that's the only thing that looks interesting to me at the moment.

Are we really acting like we don't know that the biggest games thus far for the console are about to drop

We had a misstep with Destiny but besides that failure you got:

MGS V and Fallout 4 will be classics that will define this gen, they're the type of games like RDR that you hold onto the console for when they get old. Battlefront, Just Cause 3, Rainbow Six, Street Fighter, Disgaea, The Division, Persona, plus sports games +AC annual installments coming soon. Not to mention we got MKX, Batman, Far Cry, Dragon Age, Witcher, Bloodborne, etc. already THIS YEAR

The only real problems we've had this gen was that devs tried to give us incomplete games with ridiculous DLC to basically give us a complete game

Most of the classics dropped late into the gen. The only classics I know dropped before 2009 are Fallout 3, Mass Effect and Oblivion.

Hell, most of the classics that dropped early into the gen were overshadowed by their amazing sequels years later into the generation. The difference between Oblivion and Skyrim is night and day, they don't even feel like they were made on the same console.

Garbage generation.

Literally bought 2 games for my ps4. Nba 2k15 which i only played a week (thought it was weak compared to 2k11/2k13) and GTA5 (which I bought on ps3/pc as well).

Havnt turned my ps4 on since february, literally.

I wasnt big on xbox 360 and ps3 but they kept me interested way longer than ps4 did. I look at my ps4 in disgust knowing theres a chance ill never play it again

Dont get it twisted. PC gaming not doing great right now as well. Maybe ill buy battlefront but other than that cant think of a game thats coming out that got me
