It's impossible to connect with anyone playing the anonymity game online in 2013.

Lets try and be ourselves yall. Its hard because the internet can box you into acting and reacting a certain way to posts but we have to look deep inside ourselves like X-rays and say, im real im real im really really real.

Total strangers? :shaq2:

I met my fiance online. Some close homies and business partners online :myman:

When my cousin was sick, I got help from my fam online.

Breh the internet is REAL life... there are real people behind the names. Even if in your case you may own/maintain multiple names of other genders, It is still you behind them all.

Sometimes you meet 50% upfront people and 50% trolls.... It is what it is.

If in 2013, you dont have at least (one) 1 FB, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+ or some other account tagged, hi5, pof, okcupid something with 1 real profile. 1 real you online, not a fake made up account.... I think you are weird

If you wanna be fake, go play a simulation game online
Exactly. I've traveled the country meeting friends from the internet. I lost my virginity to a woman from the internet. My first corporate gig was from a friend from a forum.

I don't get how people can invest so much of their lives into something that they don't seek to yeild any benefit from other than being some faceless troll. It's not productive. It's anti social. Not to mention its REALLY REALLY creepy.

At this point the only people that actively maintain anonymity on the internet are people engaged criminal activity such as stealing credit cards or distributing/viewing kiddie porn. At least that's what it seems like.

Also, admins, if you REALLY want this community to explode and make you tons of money then it's best to cultivate a community of active participants instead of catering to faceless trolls hell bent on derailing ACTUAL discussion. Otherwise, you'll only repel new users and the connections made on the board won't be substantial enough to sustain its existence. I've seen it happen before.

There is nothing wrong with not wanting to build relationships via the internet. That's cool if that's what you want to do but some people aren't into that.

It's not about wanting to build relationships. It's about that's the natural thing that happens with humans when they interact with one another for any length of time. The whole nameless-faceless troll thing totally circumvents that and it's just naturally unsettling for well adjusted people. Not only that, but it eventually cripples an online community's growth.

Hey bro

You can share and be smart about it

For example a friend of mine on another forum got me an on site interview with Google

I have a lot of common interest friends I've made from car + motorcycle websites

Bruh there were people from SOHH at my engagement party :damn: I have like 40 people from SOHH on FB

So people share. But you want people to share all willy nilly like you. THAT'S where people draw the line. nikkas is savages out hea who can't wait for a come up exposal. Plus you come off as an a$$hole, self absorbed and desperate for attn (case in point this god damn thread). So what do you expect???

I think that's a cool goal for other sites, but it won't work for this one. fukkery and disrespect is encouraged more than it's discouraged. Other sites seems "strict" compared to this one.

Dude, the people in charge of this site are profit motivated. They can speak for themselves when it comes to the direction and the spirt of the board. But yeah, they're shooting themselves in the foot thinking that catering to nameless-faceless trolls is going to make them any money. I'm just not sure they're aware of that.

truth of the matter is, there's very little incentive for anyone to connect to each other online aside from the sake of connecting. i doubt we have much to offer each other aside from stories. especially on a forum like this. this place is more of a gathering of people who'd prefer a life of obscurity considering the fact we make aliases with our names and very few people use their actual pictures for avatars. not to mention, the phobia most people seem to have of sites that actually do put you on display for the public. then they blame it on people they're connecting with, they blame them for ruining the experience or some how making the electronic social connection void when you make you're own experience by inviting those people around you...

Owners make investments that make sense. You taking all this "we need to connect deeper" like The Dougie never happened :rudy:

And people connect bro. There are people who married off here. Had kids. You just want to force the mods to make you friends

Nobody's asking to. But somehow, I doubt your life is of any importance and there's no incentive for people to pry.

But if you're going to be on a community for any length of time, what point is it to remain completely unhuman and completely anonymous? How can you expect to have a serious conversation with anyone?

Are you a drug dealer or something? In that case I can understand. But in that case you can understand why I could never ever have a conversation with you that goes past me making the above mentioned point.

Why would you want to not be anonymous in a site full of trolls? We've got females getting their looks clowned on to the point they quit the site. We've got people's real friends and family members getting harrassed anonymously through twitter and facebook. I'd be embarrassed as fukk to explain to some family member or friend why they're being stalked by a Coli poster.

This is the internet. A site anyone can access. Anything you do here is in the public eye. No one wants their real name attached to that. Dudes are sharing stories about the females they dikk down. Admitting to cheating on their woman. Drooling over pics of big booty bytches. These are not things we want everyone to know. We are sharing things on here that would otherwise be shared with a friend behind closed doors. Not the world.

I've been on the net longer than most people, I know better than to put my info out. If it's a IHeartTevinCampbell message board, I wouldn't mind folks knowing my nickname or little pieces of info but most sites/forums? Absolutely not. :birdman: My fam tweets frequently and never use our real names/personal info. If I like you enough to connect offline, you would learn about me (who I am, what I look like) organically, no need to post it online.

Being yourself on line is a freeing experience. Keeps you from becoming a troll and you also not afraid of being 'exposed'.
Right. I guess that's what I'm talking about. I'm not asking for people to post their SSNs and their bank statements (which I've had nameless-faceless trolls on here try to goad me into doing) I'm talking about just some basic humanizing info to get a bearing on who you're communicating with. It's IMPOSSIBLE for me to carry on a conversation with someone who's sole purpose is to be destructive online under a veil of anonymity. I get really puzzled by the multitude of idiots on this board that do.

The mods need to stop coddling this behavior if they plan on cultivating a community that last past the first (inevitable) raid or the first (inevitable) long outage.

Investing in trolls is a mistake. It never works and the communities that cater to them rarely last. If they do last they don't grow because the connections between posters in those settings aren't strong at all and it's nearly impossible to attract new members after the initial source dries up.
