So. Cal
It's not impossible.

Stop it.
It's not at all. It's just that alot of poor people spend money on stupid shyt instead of investing in themselves. You go to alot of homes in the hood they living in a HUD apartment but have a closet full of clothes they spent thousands on. Imagine if they said fukk trends and the social pressure of looking cool and going to clubs. It's definitely not impossible... people need to make smarter choses. But again that's easier said than done.

i have no problem with this assessment
i know people will break this down and say you can save if you blah blah blah...

fukk that. people who save usually save in bulk. set aside 50-100 dollars a pay check on up.
poor people can't do that..
I don't think that's true breh. Most people aren't saving 200 - 400 a month. That average person that saves puts away 10 - 30 a check.

Smh at the responses in this thread. It's like you all don't understand what it means to be poor. I don't know any poor people buying j's, with the latest clothes, or all the new gadgets. You all sound like those republicans who constantly use the example of the fictious black welfare queen.

There is a such thing as the working poor and they work very hard. Not to mention not all "poor" people qualify for government assistance, let alone the same amount. I know plenty of people who work full time jobs or 2 part time jobs, making just above minimum wage and yet they don't qualify for anything. So some how they juggle their bills and pay them, most of the time something is late.

You all lack empathy and sympathy for disenfranchised people, many who are black. You talk but you don't listen and think you know it all. I can see why it's even more frustrating for poor people because no one really cares about them and have already made up opinions about them. I guess everyone needs someone to look down on to feel better about themselves. Your attitude is the exact same one the rich have about us, not to mention how whites view us minorities.

I totally feel you and i understand where you're coming from. but the issue is, i need to lookout for myself first and get myself stabilized before I can worry about people who have less than me.

people who are in poverty didn't choose to be there, it's just the cards they were dealt. the hood will always be there. society helps as much as it is required to though affirmative action, social services, etc. but there are so many issues all working together to keep people from escaping. it's up to individual to break free of the negative influences trying to hold them back from flourishing in society.

:yeshrug:

in that same sense posting on the coli is too time consuming gotta get back to doing hw :mjcry:

You're acting like this isn't a majority black forum and a lot of people here haven't lived in low income areas with "poor" people, let alone were poor at one point.

No not every poor person is living as a lazy welfare king/queen, but not every poor person is a contributing hardworking member of society who's only impoverished due to the failures of capitalism.

The truth is somewhere in the middle.

I've seen women who pride themselves in the fact their kids stay fly, as a sign of them being good providers, all while they live in neighborhoods with high violent crime rates, pests, and drugs.

Poor people gonna make excuses and justify why they're poor, that's why they stay poor.

Tell that to the immigrants that come here dirt poor and make it out of poverty within 10 years, they aren't extreme outliers, they're pretty common.

Then again those immigrants usually have an intact family structure which is a big part of prospering in western society.

And alot of them are black too (Jamaicans, Nigerians, Ethiopians, Ghanians, Haitians) :ld:

After reading this thread....you know what....fukk it.

All they have is excuses man.

People come to the States from overseas with $300 to their name, and in ten years, be more successful than the nikkas who were born and raised here. Poverty is a mindset. You wasting time even trying to tell people this. I bet if I could look into everyone's bank account on here, I'd find all types of unnecessary purchases and wasteful spending but but but i'm so broke. No. You're stupid and you lack foresight.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
10 people in a house is possibly 10 different wage earners in one household, first thing.

And we live in a country where they have section 8, food stamps, wic, tax credits for having children, and more.

This country gives you all the tools you need to get out of poverty. Fact is, if you're stuck in poverty you're either not trying hard enough to get out, making bad decision consistently, or just too stupid to ever prosper in a capitalist society.
i was about to disagree until you got that last one in...

yes it all sounds so simple... until you say it to a person who dropped out in 7th grade and doesn't know shyt about 99% of the things we are discussing

i don't think any of us are speaking of ourselves... none of us are broke.. i'd hope not, with a phone that can access the coli and/or computer and gaming systems

we talking about people we know/things we seen... fukkED up broke... ghostface killa broke

Family ain't family no more, we used to play ball
Eggs after school, eat grits 'cause we was poor

Grab the pliers for the channel, fix the hanger on the TV
Rockin' each others pants to school wasn't easy
We survived winters, snotty nosed with no coats
We kept it real, but the older brother still had jokes

Sadly, daddy left me at the age of six
I didn't know nothin' but mommy neatly packed his shyt
She cried, and grandma held the family down
I guess mommy wasn't strong enough, she just went down

Check it, fifteen of us in a three bedroom apartment
Roaches everywhere, cousins and aunts was there
Four in the bed, two at the foot, two at the head
I didn't like to sleep with Jon-Jon, he peed the bed

Seven o'clock, pluckin' roaches out the cereal box
Some shared the same spoon watchin' Saturday cartoons
Sugar water was our thing, every meal was no thrill
In the summer, free lunch held us down like steel

And there was days I had to go to Tex house with a note
Statin', "Gloria can I borrow some food ? I'm dead broke"

So embarrasin' I couldn't stand to knock on they door
My friends might be laughin', I spent stamps in stores

Mommy, where's the toilet paper? Use the newspaper
Look Miss Rose gave us a couch, she's the neighbor

Things was deep, my whole youth was sharper than cleats

Two brothers with muscular dystrophy, it killed me
