There were still slaves in America until the 1920's and one wouldn't have to be a slave themselves in order to have parents/uncles/siblings who were slaves.

My grandmother fled slavery, she lost her parents due to it. This is one of the most influential people in my life that went through this.

I have been personaly effected by slavery. I have no idea who my ancestors are due to slavery. This is but one example of many. Step out of your own ignorance and learn something
