So Cal
1. More theaters were open for Godzilla vs. kong than the rest of the slate but still only 50% capacity and 50% of theaters open..

2. it didn't have negative reviews. it's 75% on RT for people who are into that.
I'm talking about in the monster series, king of monsters lightweight flopped. RT score not as bad as I thought. :ehh: Don't know about a billi, but I take bad what I said.

Mk would've flopped though.:yeshrug: Would've been a wrap once word got out about Cole Young.

kong vs. godzilla made over $400M worldwide already with theaters at 50% capacity or not running at all. Obviously it would have gotten close to one billion.

Mortal Kombat would have made a hefty profit as well considering the movie didn't cost much to make.

I was gonna say, that Kong vs Godzilla actually did pretty well even in the US despite theaters not being open at full capacity and the movie releasing for free with an HBO Max subscription.

I wish this would have continued. I have zero interest in ever stepping foot in a theater again in my life. Watching movies at home with my own food, the ability to pause and resume later is just an infinitely better experience.

I gotta pay money to watch something and I have to watch it on someone else's terms? If I gotta piss I can't just pause it go piss and come back with out missing something. Can't order a pizza from my favorite place and eat it while watching the movie? Pass.

Netflix has a market cap of $505 billion. Disney has a market cap of $217 billion. Netflix who doesn't even put movies in theaters is worth more than Warner Bros Discovery, Disney, Comcast (the whole company not just the streaming parts) and Paramount combined. You'd still have over $117 billion left over in value adding all those up.

If cinema is such a good model support both day one and see how well people actually value it.

The majority don't want cinema. If given a choice people would rather watch movies at home. The only reason cinema still exist beyond niche is because of a forced window of exclusivity.
If I live next to a decent multiplex instead of THIS BULLSHYT, I wouldn't mind spending time there. But I just got fired (over nothing) from my job in cac wood, and now banished to this failed twice Walmart ( more on that later, weekend is long) until they get tired of me AGAIN which shouldn't be too long, I have no choice but to wait until the movie come to streaming

The entire movie theater business is a legacy business that has been protected by studios long after technical innovation made it mostly unnecessary. The reality is if people were given the option to watch all movies day 1 at home the movie theater business wouldn't be long for this world. There was a time when a movie came out and from a tech standpoint you couldn't watch it from home day one. Now you can.

It's funny to watch companies like Disney and Warner Discovery want to be the next Netflix but be unable to commit to streaming all the way. Granted there's always going to be people who want to see IMAX movies and see movies in a proper theater but if that exclusivity window was removed I think a lot of theaters would be shut down because the business wouldn't be there.

You speak on what you don't know. I go to the movies I every weekend and I can tell you this year feels like the most people I've seen at the theaters since before COVID. People are excited to go to the movies again. Especially the younger generation. It's the older people that haven't returned since COVID.

That article posted above seems to confirm it. Barbenheimer was huge but overall it seems like more people are in the theaters this year.

I was in the trenches in 2020 and 2021 when theaters has like 4 people in a screening. People didn't start coming back until around October 2021 when Dune came out.

I’ll keep it a buck with you. Is it easier to watch Frozen 3 on Disney plus instead of having a bunch of kids coughing on my popcorn in a stank ass theater? Of course.

Does the rest of America feel the same in 2025? Of course.

Your time is ending old man. Movie theaters are going the way of the horse. Of course you can still have luxury ones, but that won’t keep the studios afloat. The people want streaming, and that’s what the people are gonna get.
