But I do support stricter gun laws, such as banning the sale/manufacture of assault weapons. Because really...why the full does a civilian need some semi-automatic shyt? And I'd support stricter/universal background checks, in particular mental health checks and check on whether the person buying a gun lives with someone with a history of mental health issues.

More guns on the street will inevitably create more gun violence. This is a simple concept. When you defend more guns being available to the public for whatever reason you want them, then you have to justify why all that gun violence is an acceptable tradeoff.
