Do you consider a QB that doesn't play at all for 2 years a rookie when he finally starts playing his 3rd year? NFL doesnt. Romo didn't take a snap his first 2 season yet NOBODY called him a rookie his 3rd season. He was just the 3rd year QB out of Eastern Illinois

Nah quit acting like I'm being unreasonable. NFL doesn't think so. A rookie QB can ride the bench the entire season..then start the next season. The NFL doesn't recognize that player a rookie but a 2nd year player that didn't play. Let's just say a NBA dude gets drafted but doesn't play a minute...is he a 'rookie' the next season?

There's clearly a difference between someone riding the bench and someone being ruled out for the year, not even suiting up.

Julius played 14 minutes, technically since he checked into a game he won't be a rookie but the league is considering allowing him to be eligible for the ROTY next year. The threshold is whether or not you got in a game or not, almost every rookie that's on a roster plays. That's why Nerlens & Blake were rookies, they never were logged minutes or were active on the roster, same reason JoJo will be a rookie next year.

This is Mirotic first year in the league. He's a rookie. The 'rookie' terminology should be connected with a players contract imo. If a dude gets drafted and rides the bench for 3 years with no PT..he ain't a damn rookie his 4th season

I should have clarified, players like Mirotic..who do not enter the NBA right away would be an exception. Thats why I said rookie status should be tied into a players contract..as far as I know Mirotic wasnt getting NBA checks these past few years
