And don't get me started on Andre 3K & his Source Awards speech in his feelings. Them getting booed was more about Smif N Wessun not winning that anything else

Nah, this goes back to the very entity that awarded them 4.5 mics. There's no way anyone could read The Source's review of SPCM and not see how much of a back handed compliment it was. It was basically a diss to The South because they basically said Southern Hip Hop was wack outside of the Geto Boys/Scarface and that Kast was the only other Southern act worth listening to.

Dated discussions lol…the game is the game. This shyt is wide open now and just a lick to most rappers. The album is dead as a format. DSP’s and AI shaking up the industry.

NY is doing fine. I remember 12 years ago you’d go outside and you wouldn’t even hear NY music. They wasn’t even signing nikkas. There was a bunch of has beens and local industry darling types think Troy Ave getting pushed while the youth movements didn’t have resources or were being ignored. That’s not the case now I’m almost jealous of the youth coming up now.

NY got its own scene, it’s own new venues, it’s own new platforms, it’s own new regional sounds, and plenty of new-ish rappers putting out hits and bringing back plaques.

this is pure hate.

for the bolded - the discographies speak for themselves.

This is why I can't down with any of these "top 50 greatest rappers of all times list"

If you don't have at a minimum 3 projects with 0 skips that are straight FIRE I don't think you should be on the list.

Unless you're an exception like biggie you gotta be THAT level.

The internet era does not get the respect it deserves because everything is ran by the same 90s dikkryders.
Hate? Its a fact

how did music just come outta nowhere with 0 skips. Lemme as you this. why is everyons secone album weaker than the first? Because songs were created in a lifetime, instead of at the height of ya career in 6 months with a dozen label heads pulling you in a dozen directions. Now think about how it is today. Fact 1.

shyt didnt have zero skips 30-20 years ago. And infinitley work work went into albums then. And mind you, in order to get a release you had to be an actual TALENT to get it back then. How many shytty rap songs have you heard this month. I bet its more than the good ones. Thats just simple math. Law of averages. Fact 2.

Guys releasing 10x the output and you telling me theres multi projects they got with zero skips by trhese guys who drop 3 albums a year. Theres like 20 rappers with albums like these. They usually the TOP rappers period.

Everythung is microwaved in a weekend. Do you know how guys record to that. They literally speed run. Watch how griselda records. Or modern young rappers. They do 10 freestyles an hour blankly not even tryna make sense. A sea of mediocrity ti sift through to find one great song. Fact 3

Newsflash. Your favorites (and mine) got they mans recording verses to all the shyt they “drop” and they come in and record over the vocals. Walal. New album. This is how the game moves today if you didnt know. Names you’d NEVER guess. I know this for a FACT because i’ve talked with multiple producers who’ve dealt with it personally. It breaks all out hearts. HEARTBREAKING fact 4.

You’d struggle to name 10 albums of the past 10 years with zero skips. Let alone 10 a year. Please. Most great rappers got a handful of dope joints and a handful of eh joints themsleves so where all these CLASSICS at?

Foh. Now guys use the same verse on 100 diff features, sell multi verses to diff artists, shyt copy and pasted like a 2 year old to anr “features”.

Music game is 100% fast food today. If it wasnt, guys wouodnt do everything BUT make music and theird be MONEY in it. Thats why they turning into sofial media influencers instead of musicians and selling ig instead if verses. Its the appetizer too a diff main course than it was 30 years ago. You get ONE chance at a first impression. Not 500. I didnt give the greatest musicians of all time that much time ima give it to RAPPERS?

Thats a fact not hate. Yall say its cause of age. Its nothing to do with age or time. Its technilogy. It no longer bars people from creating. That doesnt mean people are at HIGHER (or LOWER) levels of creativity. It means they focus LESS on one thing… hence WHY nothing comes off as GREAT; and most are LESS creative than before and follow trends. Theres nothing to stop the mediocrity. Yet you contused it with an age difference because ya got a beef with ya pops or something. It Has nothing to do with that at all.

This isnt even debatable.

Hell no. Anyone can record now and upload that shyt, just with the ratio of material uploaded everyday hell no.

You have to give some examples. Y'all need to define a skip too, a skip to me is a bad song. I don't skip okay/cool songs and I don't consider then "filler".

I already posted it. a "skip" is an objectively bad record that was received as bad.

this is the first example that comes to mind.

This is a part of my criteria too... Unless skill "only" is being ranked.

"skill" is even subjective when it comes to rap.

The only thing that matters for STUDIO records is making good quality music.

people play that card to twist their narrative on here I've noticed.

but then in the same note will use it to insult other rappers they don't like calling them "lyrical lyrical" or rappity rap or whatever.

they have battle rap leagues and showcases for all that "skill" talk.

I don't wanna de-rail but the end goal for anyone releasing studio LPs or EPs mixtapes whatever is QUALITY music.

Theres plenty of track records of very skilled rappers not being able to do that smell me

NY is trash now and we already know it’s not coming back.

No one is asking it to

It is "debatable." you're just a hater.

You already made up your mind that nobody has talent and puts 0 effort into their craft.

I've never seen u in any relative discussions on hip-hop anyway.

Just say you only fukk with oldschool.

Theres nothing wrong with that; its people like you with your attitude.

There ARE good artists who have been grinding putting out incredible music with the discography 2 do it since the "golden days."

A lot of them don't have the same misses as a lot of the rappers who are held in high esteem from the "golden days."

And they have a fraction of the backing.

The problem with people like you is you're close minded and blinded by nostalgia.

Also back then you had a MACHINE telling you what was dope.

Without that a lot of people are lost like yourself.

People be gettin' all mad at thread titles. I agree with the thread title. When the East were the gatekeepers, we had multiple classics from every region, even if the East didn't necessarily fukk with it too hard.
