This narrative that Jordan's game is some mythical creation of Nike, Gatorade, the media, or nostalgia needs to stop. As I've said before, other geats proclaimed jordan as the best before he won a ring.

This is what Bird said about Jordan before he even finished his rookie season:

``I have never seen one player turn a team around like that,`` said Bird, snapping his fingers. ``All the Bulls have become better because of him. Orlando Woolridge will probably be an All-Star for the rest of his career. And pretty soon, this place will be packed every night, not just when the Celtics come to town. They`ll pay just to watch Jordan. Got to.``

Bird recently volunteered his vote for Jordan as the finest athlete he`d ever witnessed or opposed, mentioning the Bulls` electric rookie in the same monologue as Wayne Gretzky. After observing Jordan gyrate for 41 points, a game-high 12 rebounds and 7 assists Tuesday night, Bird was in no mood for second opinions.

``Best,`` said Bird. ``Never seen anyone like him. Unlike anyone I`ve ever seen. Phenomenal. One of a kind.``

In other words . . .

``One of a kind,`` he repeated. ``That`s what I mean about the league. With guys like him coming in from college year after year, we just can`t help but get a better image, better crowds, better TV ratings. He`s the best. Ever.``

Better than Larry Bird?

``Yup,`` said Bird. ``At his stage in his career, he`s doing more than I ever did. I couldn`t do what he did as a rookie. Heck, there was one drive tonight. He had the ball up in his right hand, then he took it down, then he brought it back up. I got a hand on it, fouled him, and he still scored. And all the while, he`s in the air. You have to play this game to know how difficult that is. You see that and figure, `Well, what the heck can you do?` ``

As a fukking rookie, 3 months into his first year, Jordan was labeled the best by Larry fukking bird. The next year, he called him "God". These aren't figments of advertising. That's real praise from a GOAT on the GOAT, before the shot on Cleveland, before winning MVP and dpoy in the same year, before dropping 3,000 pts in a season, before winning 6 championships, before collecting 10 scoring titles, before all of that his peers recognized he was the GOAT. No romanticaztion. No rose-colored glasses. Jordan is the GOAT because of his incredible play, that even left other greats speechless and in awe like the common fan.

It's cool that Bird could see early on that MJ had the talent to be the GOAT. He's already proved he is A MILLION times better at evaluating talent Jordan is, so I can understand why he would crown him early.

But 2 things about that:
1) There is no way a ROOKIE can be the best ever. He may have had the talent to be
the best ever but Jordan didn't have ANY accomplishments at the time to have any
TRUE claim at the title right? Isn't that what y'all goal post movers do when you scoff
at anybody that says LeBron is the best ever? If it was only the eye test people
would have every right to claim Bron was the BEST they have ever seen without
yall getting salty. He would need "at least 6 rings" and not just a basketball legend
saying he's the greatest .

Which leads me to my next point:
2) Some of the Greatest players to ever play the game have said Bron is GOAT
or tied for GOAT.

Like THE BIG O HIMSELF ( Who Many extra old heads would say is the actual GOAT)

Oscar Robertson – “[Is] Barkley trying to say that LeBron isn’t as good as Michael Jordan? .. come on!”

Reporter – “What do you think?”

Oscar Robertson – “psh.. LeBron is in a class by himself”

Or maybe THE ULTIMATE WINNER Bill Russell saying Bron is the only person on WILTS level ( The player he has the most admiration and respect for due to their legendary long fought battles and also from him just watching wilt DOMINATE said:

What I think about LeBron is what I used to think about Wilt,” Russell said after a morning round of golf, “and like I told Wilt one time, ‘I think I’m the only guy on the planet who really knows how good you are because I’ve seen you up close.’ I know what I’m watching.

The funny thing is my only 2 original points were That I believe Jordan came along at the right time and wouldn't have it ANYWHERE NEAR the universal worship he has now had he played in this Internet heavy 24/7 media frenzied culture. And that I don't think he became the hands down BEST until 88. I NEVER SAID I DONT THINK HE'S GOAT. But saying anythig but constant retro praise about Jordan is like dissing Jesus or Santa Clause to you nikkas. :snoop:

Bird didn't say Jordan had the talent to be the best ever. He said Jordan is the best ever. Before the dude turned 22, bird said he was the best ever. Let's get that clear because you seem to be confused about what he said. You're super imposing what you think about Jordan back then as if that's what bird said. He didn't speak about Jordan as an Andrew Wiggins or LeBron James, speaking about his potential for greatness. He flat out said he is the best ever. You finding that unbelievable is a testament to Jordan's greatness. Because you're obviously a young kid who didn't watch Jordan. You saying others thought bird was better early in Jordan's career...dude, bird didn't even believe that.

Bird saying that about 21 yr old, rookie mike is a testament to Jordan's greatness. Without any significant accomplishment, just by the eye test, just by watching him play and playing against him, bird had all the information he needed to proclaim Jordan the goat and that's something you can't seem to wrap your head around because LeBron needs to seemingly accumulate stats and rings to even be mentioned in the conversation as goat contender.

"But but but he didn't accomplish anything. Isn't that what yall say about lebron?" Yea that's what we say about LeBron, because watching him play, his game by itself doesn't warrant the goat title. He needs to accumulate the rings because watching him play, actually watching him play, not checking the box score, nothing tells you this guy is the goat. In his 10th season, on the biggest stage - the NBA finals -he's getting left wide open for 15-18 foot jumpers! In the NBA finals! Wide open! His 10th season! He averaged 17 ppg in another NBA finals and admittedly disappeared from it. 17 ppg from a potential goat. 17! He let Jason fukking terry get in his head and treat him like a bytch for an entire series. He looked uninterested and detached from that series. You look at the stats this year and you'd think he's on another level. But then you watch him go against the bulls and pacers - you know the two teams that aren't rivals of his - and he's not the same. Missing shots against tighter defenses, air balling crucial 3's, turning over the ball at critical moments, missing 4th quarter free throws. 25 ppg on 58% shooting for the season. 18ppg on 40% shooting against the pacers and bulls - his non rivals - this season. LeBron shrinks under pressure. Watching him play, you know you're not watching the goat.

That's why he needs rings and more accomplishments to be even brought into the discussion of goat - because what you're watching has to be reconciled someway, somehow or else talking about him being goat is laughable based on visual evidence. You have Kobe saying he'd beat LeBron 1 on 1, Paul George saying Durant is the toughest player to guard, other players saying Kobe, melo or Durant are the toughest, a poll among NBA players with 0 picking LeBron to take the final shot. This is not the goat. This dude gets disrespected like that by his peers in his 11th season. That's why he needs rings. His game isn't respected or feared.

Jordan was the goat like bird said based on his game alone, his accolades and accomplishments only made the argument of Jordan as goat, sealed-tight and bulletproof. LeBron needs those things to bring him into the convo.

And nothing was proven.

You can't quote the cliff notes without first reading the book. These numbers indicate jack shyt.

Doesn't it prove he is ahead of them in almost EVERY single category at the same age?

These are facts, no?

Ahead of him in what way? He played in the league at 18 so he had more time to accumulate numbers. He also plays in a different era and with different rules.

Do how many MVP's and titles you got have anything to do with starting your career at 18 though :mjpls::gladbron::ufdup::lolbron:
