I've asked this in the past, but now I'm certain that Jeter can catch Rose

This dude is about to pass Craig Biggio on the hits list if he hasn't already.

And thinking back to Biggio's sad and pathetic crawl to get to 3,000 and seeing how strong Derek is still looking at the plate, I don't feel it's far off to say that he could potentially catch Pete Rose. Derek's athleticism isn't appreciated enough, and its what separates him from a lot of guys he's passed on the hit list.

Thoughts....

Well just from pure numbers/ratio standpoint, he's like 75% of the way there. If you think he's gonna play another 6 seasons at this rate, then maybe.

That's fukking crazy when you think about it. As much as ppl say Jeter has been overrated, I feel like he's beginning to be underrated.

And I agree Reb, dude is a terrific athlete. He would've succeeded in any sport he chose.

He's never been overrated. I hate the Yankees and I've never once thought he didn't deserve all the praise and accolades he's received. Dude is a straight up professional - never gets rattled.

Breh, I've heard mad nikkas on that old site and in real life say Jeter was overrated before. I NEVER understood it. I think Jeter is just one of those dudes ppl love to hate cuz he's nice with it.

I used to be a Jeter hater, but even when I was, I realized just how GOOD he was. And how he always seemed to be his best at the right times.

He's definitely on pace for 200 hits this year. 163 hits with 41 games to go. He'll play at least 35, i'd imagine.

If he gets 200, that'll be around 3,288....that's less than 1k to get to Pete Rose's 4,256. :leon:

It's gonna be interesting to see what happens with his 2014 salary. He has a $8MM player option with a $3MM buyout in that final year of the contract.

He'll be 40 then. You'd think Jeter will say "fukk it" & stay just to get to that record by then, right?

Yeah, the "Jeter is overrated" talk began in the late 90's/early 00's when he was being compared to Prime-Rod and when Nomar was putting up monster numbers. Then just continued as metrics hit mainstream took over and every baseball nerd loved to go on tangents detailing how in fact Derek was inferior to some random SS on a losing team.

Now he's getting the career twilight respect treatment.

And you know damn well the league wants Jeter to pass Rose more than anything. So, that Rose can kinda be erased a bit for good.

 @ Biggio crawling to 3k. He was forcing it, wasn't he?

If his body is still holding up, then why not? Dude is one of the better athletes in sports, most certainly one the best that's played baseball. People sort of take his jump throws while going towards third for granted over the years. That shyt is athletic as fukk. Hopefully, he'll do the Robin Yout and move to the outfield in a year or two.

I think he's athletic enough to still be relevant 6 years from now.

:russ: classic. But i'm more interested if he'll get to 4,000 before I concern myself with him catching Rose I hope he makes it a chase even if he doesn't get there.
