I'm saying you like to be talking that black empowerment stuff but here you are doing this...

Edit: I ain't got no beef with you and even think youre a descent poster. Just saying.

This kid obviously wants to do something productive with his life and even be his own boss. We should encourage this type of behavior

I'm not doing anything. If you are offended by my post (which are literal questions) then business isn't for you.

Im familiar with the area. I live in Virginia Beach.
I asked because I saw you mention selling down at the ocean front.
Selling at the virginia beach ocean front is never going to happen. They won't allow food trucks at all and if you want to own a restaurant on the ocean front you're going need a ridiculous amount of cash and strong political connects.
Now in the areas outside of Virginia Beach you definitely have the potential to be successful.
My uncle bought a hotdog stand for cheap in New York.
He brought it down here and sells hotdogs in Norfolk primarily.
At first I didn't take it seriously but he actually does very well for himself. He makes enough to pay his mortgage and keep his family taken care of.
I don't know how you are as far as people skills, but if you plan on selling food on the street you have to have the right energy for it.
It's hard work but being an independent business owner, no matter how small, is definitely something to be proud of.
Sleep on it, and if it's still in your heart, go for it. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Thanks for telling me this information. Also, it's sad that you can't vendor in Virginia Beach. I believe with hard work anyone can become a success.

Really...so who's gonna be your food distributor? Where u gonna get all your wholesale meats , fruits, vegetables and products? You gonna go extra hard with searching until u can find someone Black who sales food trucks?

:sas1:
I'm going to look into it. Also, starting out I can buy buns and etc from the local grocery store.

Virginia Beach has their own little clique in city council that does everything they can to keep people out of the circle away.
My uncle has tried over and over to get the permits to sell in Virginia Beach and they always hit him with incredibly expensive application fees (Something like $1,000 just to apply for the permit and if they turn you down for any reason at all you won't get a refund) and regulations that make it impossible for him to work in the area. I know another person with a food truck and he says the same thing about Virginia Beach. Unless you have friends in city council you shouldn't even bother.

You know where else you would see success (But you would have to speak with the right people) is in Newport News and Portsmouth with the ship yards.
Those places are huge and the workers usually don't have time to go all the way to their cars and leave the yard for lunch, so food trucks always make a killing in those areas.

On the other hand, if you have the money, or the business loan, it's not difficult at all to get your own brick and mortar location in Virginia Beach. That's actually something they welcome and I would think you would be able to receive funds as a minority business owner. The problem with that is obviously the risk is much greater than just having a relatively simply food truck with a limited menu.

I don't discourage anyone's dreams. Think about. Do your research on what type of permits you need to operate in your area and go for it.
