Think back to/look up the whole "part of this complete breakfast" marketing, take a look at the pictures from those commercials. Cereal has fallen off as a breakfast food for many since then. Eggs never went anywhere. Fast food chains, breakfast spots, diners for truckers, 24-hour places with breakfast all day, bakers, high end patisseries, restaurants...eggs are a staple for a reason.
Bread and cakes alone would keep the egg industry alive if it really came to it.
