Honestly it's this guys perspective thats skewed. Right now westerners live in the most affluent society in recorded history but are still no happier than they were decades ago which peaked in the 50's as measured by the GHS (Gross Happiness Index). Advanced societies may offer us more access to information and luxury but in our long evolution as a species this has been a relatively recent development. We're on the cusp of an age where we no longer experience the continual increase in standard of living. An age where the skills you learn today will still be relevant 20 years from now because we will be forced to live in simpler societies due to the limits to growth in a post-carbon society. It may be 2 or 3 generations away but it only reinforces the fact that there are limits to growth. In that era community and nature will matter more than advancement in the since of career or wealth. In that sense his time at a steel mill may seem squandered only if in the context of "advancement". Acquiring a greater fulfillment in life outside of material advancement may give a better perspective on life.

I'm still paying for mistakes I made in my 20's, but I still have my family, a good job, and food on the table. Wasted my 20s trying to keep up with the Joneses.

Realest shyt ever. To my youngin's, theres a reason why ur parents and elders preach to you about your future because what they say is 10000000% true. I fukked myself over in my early 20's including my credit. I wised up at 26 when i got my career and now im sitting at 32 with two kids, a wfie, nice pad and nice car living comfortably. But im still paying for my mistakes in my 20's. It wasnt until just last year that i finally got my debt tooken care of and got my credit back clean. Now im sitting at a fico score of 720 and still rising. Thank god for the seven year credit law :whew:

If that doesn't make you want to grind and chase your dreams.

When this dropped dude was in his early 20s with life to look forward to. If you think about it, the 80s does seem not that long ago....but it's 30 years. I mean shyt...98 seems like a few years ago and it's 17 years ago.

I remember J.Lo Diddy and Ja rule were hot and that was 14/15 years ago :sadcam:
