Off topic but what's your thoughts on Cali as a New York nikka?

I’ve been going to Cali all my life so i don’t have a NY nikka perspective. My mom is Panamanian and a lot of ur family migrated to the states and wound up all over the bay and LA. I was 11 years old spending a month out the summer on normandie and king in south central. And visiting fam up in San Mateo in the bay.

to answer your question to the best of my ability I love Cali. There’s not a state that offers more as far as diversity of things to do. Or more diversity in terms of desert, city, mountains, suburbs etc

Just one time, on my nose. I was standing outside in the sun all day and I didn't wear a hat. The weird thing is that my arms and the rest of my face were exposed to the same amount of sunlight, but it was only my nose that burned

It wasn't too bad I don't think. It was also 10 years ago so I don't entirely remember exactly how painful it was or how long I took to heal. It can't have been very bad or else I'd remember, I'm sure of that

Laying in the sun right now in Oahu.

Studies about black people and sunburns are tricky. A dark skinned person that spends a lot of time outside and grew up in Texas, Louisiana, Florida etc, is going to have less issues than a dark skinned couch potato in NYC, Detroit etc.

"Black" in America encompasses so many different skin tones. Caramel/medium blacks and lighter need sunscreen no matter what....if they are going to be outside for extended periods.

Dark skinned blacks that spend a decent amount of time outside in the south....probably don't need much if any.

Dark skinned blacks that live further north are OK...but probably need Vitamin D supplements due to less sun exposure. If you live in Chicago, Philly, NYC etc., and travel to Miami, Honolulu...really anyplace further south with more intense sunlight....put on some sunscreen. It gets hot and humid up north but the sunlight IS NOT the same.

Been living in Alabama or Florida all of my life and never. Not once.

Same.

5th generation Texan. Fam is mostly east and southeast Texas + Louisiana. Not sure any of us have ever gotten burnt. Mostly everyone is roughly LeBron complexion or darker.

Definitely tan in the sun and somehow get darker but that's it.

went camping in alaska during record high temps/20 hours of sunlight a day and nothing happened, i love my melanin :wow:

i did bring some sunscreen just in case but had to toss it... i had no idea it expires even though there's no dates and really fukks up ur skin, there's a story from a guy it happened it to below
I applied SPF 100 sport spray, every hour (give or take) for roughly 4 hours. I was hanging out at the lake and at slightly higher elevations so the water reflection and elevation probably increased the damage.

I pretty much had no idea that I had a problem until I scratched an itch on my back and it hurt really bad. I considered for a split second that I had a burn but like an idiot, I rationalized it as "sunblock burned the broken skin from the scratch".

The blisters formed by the next day and I started reading the can to see if I missed something about applying it. I found the customer service number and called it. Before talking to anyone, I heard a recording tell me that the FDA doesn't require expiration dates on sunblock and to consider it expired after 3 years. This bottle was easily 4-5 years old.

I had no clue.

I went to the doc and got some amazing medicated gauze and they sent me home with pain meds after cleaning the burn off and showing everyone in the building.

It was easily one of the most painful things I have ever experienced. Except when my tank top straps got dried to my blisters on my shoulders and became part of the blister scabs overnight. Trying to pull them off was almost blackout pain. I soaked in a tub for a while until they basically melted off.

This was preventable- Sunblock expires, please check yours and make sure you store it according to the instructions.

EDIT- I want to clear up: I'm naturally, very pale person, I was at high altitude while on and in the water. I do not blame anyone but myself for this. Whether expired or I stored it incorrectly whatever it was- it was my own fault. I should have been careful with making sure the things I use to protect my skin were being used as they should have been. I agree that all sunblock should have expiration dates, I just don't blame anyone but myself for my lack of due diligence. This isn't a chemical burn, just a bad burn on skin that rarely sees the sun with a few contributing circumstances that made it worse.

I'm not planning to sue anyone although I appreciate and understand why it is being suggested. I just want people to have all the information to protect their skin! Be safe! Skin cancer is a real danger.

TL;DR- Sunblock expires.

Sheesh. Same happened to me. Or at least, that type of burn. I got sun poisoning from a tremendously severe burn before. Damn near 3rd degree burn. Worst shyt ever.
