It usually takes a few years for each decade to establish itself culturally.

IMO:
The 60s era/culture started with JFK’s assassination and MLK’s March on Washington, (1963-64) and peaked with the moon landing (1969).

The 70s era/culture began with Watergate/the US pullout from Vietnam (1973-74) and peaked with Star Wars (1977).

The 80s didn’t truly begin until Thriller dropped in ‘82, IMO.

The 90s ended with 9/11.

So on and so forth. :jbhmm:

Very few of us were there/aware for these things.

I do think that 2012 though was the beginning of the 2010s era. Social media, movies, political changes in Washington, differences in cultural expression largely on the backs of the above. Take Care vs NWTS, Pelle Pelle vs Moncler, Racks on Racks on Racks vs All Gold Everything. oovoo vs FaceTime, Superbad vs Project X…Netflix!

I think it’s fair to say 2020s began in the wild ass year 2020 was..shyt I still feel like its December 32nd sometimes.

NY street eras I think almost everyone agrees ”011” started “the 010s.” What a year :mjcry:

That’s funny… I thought the 2010s lowkey started with 2008-2009.

Obama winning the election was historic.
You had the housing bubble burst.
Iron Man kickstarted the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The long white tee era of hip-hip was officially over, and autotune was in.
Social media started really taking off.
Michael Jackson’s untimely death in 2009 broke the internet.
(EDIT: Toonami got cancelled around 2008, which officially ended the early 2000s anime boom.)

The 2010s era/culture definitely ended with COVID, and the untimely death of Kobe Bryant was the nail in the coffin. :rip:
(EDIT: Even Disney’s media dominance started slipping after conclusion of the MCU Infinity Saga and the controversial fan reception to the Star Wars sequels.)

The breakdown of the Berlin Wall was the beginning of the end for the 80s. By 1991, the transition was complete. That’s when grunge/gangsta rap started really taking off.

The Simpsons blew up. Every kid wanted to be Bart Simpson in the 90s.
Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park revolutionized special effects in movies.
On top of that you had the rise of Sonic the Hedgehog, the Nintendo/Sega console war, and the fighting game revolution (thanks to Street Fighter 2 and the Mortal Kombat games.).

Years after that, 9/11 and the War on Terror changed everything.
